FCS 6th Grade Safety Day!
7th and 8th Grade Field Trip to Speaker Anthony Johnson
Anthony Johnson is not your regular educator who followed a traditional path in life. Early on, he had to endure a myriad of hardships, which caused him to drop out of school on several occasions. For Anthony Johnson, failure was the only option he had, however, it did not deter him from pursuing a life-long dream of becoming an educator. After obtaining a GED and working hard to provide for his family financially, Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor’s degree in education. This was the impetus for the innovative educator he has become today. What makes Anthony Johnson a gem is not the fact that he is an African American male, but that he cultivates and fosters a learning environment unlike any other seen in this country.

Volunteers Needed
A new school year begins and volunteers are always a vital part of our schools' success.
Each year between July 1st and October 31st all approved volunteers must verify their intent to continue volunteering by updating their background check online, or complete an initial application here: https://mcdowell.k12.nc.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=349165&type=d&pREC_ID=758408 by clicking volunteer, and completing the application.
On November 1st any active volunteer who has not completed the reactivation process will be automatically inactivated and will no longer be able to volunteer at any McDowell County School. To be re-activated at this point requires a new criminal background request to be completed (adding additional, unnecessary cost to MCS. $$$).
