Teacher of the Month
Teachers, please announce this to your students, and post the link in your classroom.
What do the students think? (Highlights from this week's Teacher of the Month responses)
I think Mr. S should be teacher of the month because he is so nice and caring. and he always helps me and anyone that needs it and it dont matter what time it is he dont care he will help you.
Welcome to 2nd semester
As we all know, change can be difficult. Now that we've made it through a semester together, I want to say thank you for the warm welcome you've extended to the three of us. Because of your hard work and flexibility, you've made our transition a very smooth one, and your effort has not gone unnoticed.
We'd also like to bid farewell to Mrs. Marsha Covert, who will be departing this week to take on some new adventures. We are very happy for you Mrs. Covert, but you will be dearly missed.
I also have some great news to share. I can't give any final numbers this time, but we are looking great on testing results. The work you've done with data, formative assessment, and integrating new technology is working. We're no longer standing at the foot of the mountain looking up, we've begun to climb.
As always, I'm amazed at your work-ethic and dedication to our students. I know this semester will be even better than the last.
Best wishes for a great semester ahead.
Brad Staley
Notes from the RHS Administrative Team
This week:
- IST Meeting Monday (CANCELLED)
- Spring sports meeting 6:00pm - Tuesday
- Lockdown drill - 9:00am - Wednesday
- Faculty meeting - 2:30pm - Wednesday
- All EVAAS rosters have been pushed to the school level. Please see Mr. Staley BEFORE FRIDAY if youdidn't submit correct percentages. Several rosters were submitted with 100% on all students. This indicates that no student was added or withdrawn from your classes. If this is incorrect, it needs to be changed. Thank you for all the work you've done with getting EVAAS percentages correct so far!
- In order to prepare students for the ACT test, we will run homeroom every Tuesday AND Thursday in February
- There is a new attendance excuse note format. Mr. Fields has posted it on the school website. Please review this information in your classes.
- At the faculty meeting this week, you will have some options for short 30-minute PD. Please make sure you bring laptops.
- Please avoid sending forms and files to the staff or departments through email. Instead, please send them to Mrs. Misciagno, and she will post them to OneNote. The you can send out the link. This allows us to keep a running archive of important files, instead of having to go back though emails to find them.
- Upcoming Email migration this week. Please see Mr. Simpson's email from Fri (with corresponding videos) that explain the why's and how-to's of what everybody needs to know. But not to worry, user impact will be how to access and use email (Office365 and/or Outlook 2013/16). No need to backup anything, all emails will still be there.
- PLATO RECOVERY
We have several students who failed classes this past semester. If you had a student or students that failed a class that you taught, you may be contacted by Mr. Edwards or a member of the EC team. This semester, these students will be recovering your class through PLATO. The students will either be recovering the class in the library with Mr. Edwards or own their own time. Either way, these students will be tied to you as you will be listed as the teacher of record. We need you to look at the student’s previous grades as well as their strengths and weakness. We will use this information to judge how much of the course or which standards they will have to do in order to recover it.
Affected teachers will meet after the faculty meeting next week to discuss this further.
- FROM MRS. MAREADY
REPORT CARDS
1. Have been placed in your mailbox. These go home on TUESDAY, JANUARY 31. Another email will come from Mr. Staley about the distribution time.
2. Please check over REPORT CARDS and if you have any concerns, please email me.
3. If you see that a student should have NOT received an FF and/or INC for EXAM or FINAL GRADE on the report card, I have left GRADE CHANGE FORMS attached to the black box on my door. Fill one out and make sure you see a COUNSELOR before leaving it in the black box.
ATTENDANCE
Please make sure you are taking ATTENDANCE during EACH CLASS PERIOD. This is NOT happening.
You should be marking TARDIES, especially if they are checking in at the front office and getting a check in note. I am NOT marking these for you in PS. I just do not have the time to do that.
I will mark a student ABSENT when they CHECK OUT so that you do not have to stop teaching.
Great report from Cenergistic this week! Keep it up!

DATA SPOTLIGHT
Over the next several weeks, we'll take a look at the data from the NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey. This week: Community Involvement
HOW ARE YOU FOCUSING ON THE WILDLY IMPORTANT?
Peachjar is coming!
Like us, you may be tired of dealing with all the printed materials your child carries home from school.
In December we will be moving away from printed flyers to a new "electronic backpack" system. We have begun working with a company named Peachjar on this new system. Each school will have its own online backpack where school information, calendars, activity information from enrichment providers, and school letters will be posted.
Students’ backpacks will be lighter and family members will learn about school and community events and activities directly via email. This "green" initiative will save our schools tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. No more worrying what was lost between school and home either.
Provided we have parent/guardian email addresses, no action is required. We encourage all parents to go into their parent portal and post their email address if they have not done so already. Once we are set to launch Peachjar we will send parents a welcome email that includes a username and password. This is provided to give parents the opportunity to manage their account and flyer delivery preferences. It is not necessary to login to receive or view school-approved eflyers.
Emails are not the only way to tap into flyers and other materials, it will also be possible to click on the Peachjar button on a school's website to find and view flyers.
More specific notifications will be sent as we get closer to launch.
