Central Elementary: Helping Kids Discover Their Genius
Week of May 16
Message from Mrs. Hill
We have many important events coming up here at Central, so please refer to the handout we sent home and list of dates at the end of this newsletter to keep up with us! You can also follow our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds to see updates and exciting happenings in our school! Information at the end of this flyer will help you get plugged in! Follow our celebrations and learning!
We will miss our kids and families over the summer, and want to send you all off with a school wide family picnic! May 25, last day of school, you are invited to our summer send off during your child’s lunch time. We will be having grilled hot dogs, chips, raisins, bottled water, and snow cones! First Security Bank is lending us the big TEAL GRILL, so come on out and enjoy this time with us. Bring your small children to join in on the fun! We will have enough for everyone. Lunch times are listed below. If you plan to attend, please fill out the bottom portion of the letter we will send home this week, and return it to school so we will have an idea of how many we are preparing for. We will be eating outside, so keep your fingers crossed for great picnic weather! You may bring blankets or towels when you visit.

We are committed to teaching to the #lastbell on May 25, but we will also make every moment fun and special for our kids. The end of the year is exciting, but also bittersweet for some of our fourth graders who are moving on to middle school, and some of prek kids who will move to Kindergarten in their zoned schools! We plan to take advantage of every opportunity to connect, engage, love, and inspire every child.
Have a wonderful week!

Central Elementary Yearbooks Have ARRIVED!
Book Fair Coming May 16! Prepare for Summer Reading!
Your child has worked very hard this school year to improve their reading skills. Research shows that when kids read at least five books over the summer, they can maintain literacy skills and even make progress in their reading development! To support the efforts of families with summer reading, we are having two special summer reading book fairs.
You will have the option of shopping with your child before or after school to take advantage of our special BOGO event. This means when you buy one book, you will get a second book of equal or lesser value for free! You can take advantage of this deal with as many books as you would like.
You may come to shop the BOGO event before and after school Tuesday - Friday. Doors open at 7:30 and close at 4:00. (Closing at 10:00 AM Friday.) We will also have a special late night BOGO shopping night on Thursday until 7:00.
For K-4 Students...
Another option you may choose to take advantage of is a special summer reading bundle. Your child will have the opportunity to choose five books from a special selection of titles for a set price of $15.00. This is a wonderful and cost effective way to make sure our kids have access to self-selected titles that interest them.
If you would like for your child to purchase a bundle of books, please complete and return the form below along with $15.00. We will offer a time during the school week for your child to come to the library for book purchasing.
If you would like to select a bundle of books with your child, you are welcome to come during their lunch time on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Again, you may also come purchase books before and after school Tuesday - Friday of this week to take advantage of our buy one, get one free (BOGO) special. Doors open at 7:30 and close at 4:00. (Closing at 10:00 AM Friday.) We also have a special late night BOGO shopping night on Thursday until 7:00.

Central Night at Marco's Pizza Coming Soon!
Our school blog is for kids, teachers, staff, families, and community members who would like to contribute. We want to model blogging for our kids while promoting digital citizenship for them.
SHOPAROO POINTS UPDATE...
We have earned $400 for our school through Shoparoo! As of Sunday afternoon we have accumulated over 220,000 Roo Points, and have 122 supporters. Every little amount helps, so between Shoparoo, Box Tops, Marcos Pizza, and any other initiative we take on, we can earn cash rewards for our school and avoid fundraising as much as possible.
Now, let's focus on getting to $500! :)
You can join Shoparoo with the following code: lang5526
Tell your friends and family to join in as a supporter and start scanning!
What Will Shoparoo Funds Help Purchase?
We need more Chromebooks and technology for our students. The goal is to have a 1:1 setting in third and fourth grades! This means there is a Chromebook (laptop device) for each student's use throughout a school day. We have several devices currently and want to add more. We would also like to add to our second grade classrooms in the future, and have 1:1 devices for our kindergarten and first grade kids. We would also love to add more devices to support kids' efforts with coding!
Box Tops for Education
Below are links to some collection pages for Box Tops. You are free to print these, or you may ask your child to pick up a sheet at school! We will have them available for you.
We will offer bookstore coupons to kids who return filled Box Tops sheets! These coupons will give them discounts on items in our bookstore. We will be purchasing more items for our store and will soon share those with you!
Check out our newly improved website! It includes easier buttons for accesss, along with our school's Twitter Feed.
