From our Whanau Leaders
Kia ora.
Nau mai haere mai.
In Kauri 3 we have been doing some learning for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori - Maori Language week.
We have been learning how to ask people ‘What is this colour?’, 'How many colours are here?’ in te reo maori.
Mrs J has set a wero (challenge) to Kowhai for a maori kanikani (dance) battle. May the best team win!
There is also something exciting coming up next week, Ranui day!
Ranui is a day to celebrate all the work students have done throughout the term. It is a reward for students and the completion of their mahi (work) and as someone once said “Do the mahi get the treats”
Nga mihi mai i a Emma raua ko Bella

In Totara 5 - Summer Wilkinson displays the korowai and piupiu she made...
Kaydince and Sophie paddling in the waka made by the students of Totara 2...
It takes a lot of feathers to make a korowai!
A special visitor
We were very proud of the manaakitanga they all showed today, setting up morning tea, listening attentively, performing a haka and even cleaning up and doing the dishes.
Learning Fun this week in Rimu
Reeve shows us her writing - what a great smile!
Is it a car? Is it a plane? A space ship? With a little creative thinking, a cardboard box can become anything you wish it to be!
What can be more fun than bubbles? Bubbles and toys and friends...
... and a guinea pig!
Wiggly fun in Totara
Totara 1 have been learning about worms and today with Miss Collier, we ate some!!!
We mixed Raspberry jelly with cream and some green food dye and poured it into a container with upright straws. When it had set, we squeezed the jelly mixture out of the straws onto a plate. They looked like worms, felt slimy like worms but tasted yum!!
Kayden demonstrates how to get the jelly worms out of the tube...
tahi-rua-toru Tech Challenge
3 groups of Kauri students are working on projects for the tahi-rua-toru Tech Challenge. This week we got to have a zoom hui with our mentor, Ben Chartrand, from Wellington.
The teams are identifying a problem within our school and creating a digital solution to solve it.
Team Wahine Toa are designing a website and QR code that can take you to the website, so look at how many cars are parked in the drop off bay. This way you can decide if you want to attempt to come into the drop off bay or not.
Team Pioneers are designing a points based website for classes to collect rubbish for points. Once the class has reached a certain number of points for collecting rubbish they would get a prize.
Team Panthers are designing a check in, check out system for equipment from the sports shed, in the hope that it wont go missing!
Fingers crossed these teams will make it through the regional competition and onto the National Competition with these great ideas.
Paper circuits in Design Tech
Tarli and Honor have been looking at electricity and circuits. Here are their practice paper circuits. Their final project will be their names lit up with LED lights.
Peanut Butter and Bacon Dog Treats
On Thursday Luka and Sandra made dog treats for all the dogs belonging to the staff at Puketapu.
They went down a treat! (Pardon the pun!)
Here are some of the happy puppies.
Radar, Whoopi, Aegon, Jasper and Titan
Titan liked his so much he took it and hid under the bed so none else could have it.
Billie liked hers so much she actually sat still for a second one. A very rare occurrence!
Sam ate his so fast he missed his photo opportunity!
