The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- Mar. 10, 2023
Message from the Principal:
Dear Sailor Families,
A couple of reminders:
K-2 & 3-5 Car Rider Lines:
- Please do NOT get out of your car. If you need to get out to assist your child, please park and walk them to the doors.
- Please do NOT cross the lines at any place other than the crosswalks.
- Please be patient and do not go around the cars. Sometimes it takes a minute longer for students to exit the vehicles. It happens to all of us at one point or another.
- Please do not bypass the line to drop off your student.
Arrival: Trophy Drive Doors- These doors are meant to be used by our PreK (3 & 4 year olds) only:
- If your students are NOT in PreK, please do not use these doors, or the parking lot in the mornings. You may use either the K-2 line/lot or the 3-5 line/lot.
- For PreK parents, please pull into a parking spot to drop off your student. Please do not just stop in the middle of the lot.
- Please walk your students up to the door.
Dismissal: Trophy Drive
- If your students are NOT in PreK, please do NOT use this parking lot. The lot is becoming too busy to be safe for students. Only PreK parents may use this lot. Instead, please park along Trophy Drive. If your student is in grades 3-5, they may walk to you, or you may walk up to where your student(s) are to retrieve them.
- All students PreK - 2nd need parents to come to the porch doors to pick them up.
I really appreciate your understanding and assistance in prioritizing safety over convenience.
There is a lot of information below for a very busy final quarter of the school year. Please keep reading to stay in the know.
I hope you all have a fun and refreshing Spring Break. Stay safe.
Thanks so much!
Keegan Luedecke

Next Week in Second Step:
This month, our schoolwide theme is friendship skills. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students to invite others to play, play in fair ways, take responsibility for mistakes by making amends, and how to handle name-calling assertively. These skills help students make and keep friends.
The Second Step Problem-Solving Unit includes lessons on these friendship skills. Please notice students who demonstrate friendship skills this month and reinforce their behavior with specific verbal feedback or Recognition Tickets. Remember to model these skills too. This will make it easier for students to learn and practice making and keeping friends every day.
Dinner Table Conversation Starters:
- What do you think the purpose is of the various emotions?
- When you feel a strong emotion, what is the best way to respond to it?
- How do you see me handle big emotions?
- What is the best way to handle it when you feel super angry?
- Do you think it is okay for people to cry when they get upset? (male and female, young and old?)

We only accept notice of absences in writing. Please indicate an absence on the Smart Tag Parent Portal and/or email the teacher and registrar.

District seeks feedback on ESSER funds
As you may already know, Lake Travis ISD applied to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The intent and purpose of the funding is to sustain the safe operation of schools and address student learning needs as a result of COVID-19.
As a part of ongoing ESSER provisions, the District is required to review and revise, as applicable, its plan approximately every six months—including receiving stakeholder input to assist us with prioritizing ESSER funding and developing our Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
In an effort to obtain parent and community feedback, we have developed a survey linked below. Please take a moment to share your input and opinions. Responses are due by Wednesday, April 5, 2023 and will be reviewed and taken into consideration as the District updates its plan. Your participation and feedback are valued and appreciated.
