Sepoy Rebellion
The Sepoy War of 1857
Summary
The Sepoy War began on Sunday, May 10, 1857. The rebellion was a complete surprise to the British. Their Indian solders were known as "sepoys", who were under the British orders. The Sepoy rebellion was one of the most- known uprisings during the 1800's. The start of the Sepoy rebellion was that the British put a lubricant on the rifles, and the indians believed it was a mixture of cow and pig lard, which was a religious insult to Muslims and Hindus. The rebellion was won by the British and the Indians had lost. On June 20, 1858, the war had ended.
