James Bowie was born on c.1796. Nobody is really sure the exact date he was born but they know they are close which that what the “c.” means. James Bowie Born in Kentucky, he spent most of his life in Louisiana. He became famous in 1827, when a fight between two other men broke out into a fight in which Bowie, having been shot and stabbed, killed the sheriff of Rapides Parish with a large knife. This, and other stories of Bowie's skills with a knife, led to the widespread popularity of the Bowie knife. James was called many different names while during his life time an example is Col. Jim Bowie, Colonel Bowie, Colonel Jim Bowie, and James Bowie.
Some facts about Bowie
Bowie's reputation was known by his role in the Texas Revolution. After moving to Texas in 1830, Bowie became a Mexican citizen and married Ursula Veramendi and then joined the Texas militia. In January 1836, he arrived at the Alamo, where Bowie commanded the forces until an illness left him in bed. He died with the other Alamo defenders on March 6.
