Ralph Reeder Food Drive
The food shelf's mission is to provide emergency and supplemental food assistance to individuals and families in need and to connect them to other helpful resources in a manner that preserves their dignity and empowers them to take steps towards self sufficiency. It is a Community Education Program of the Mounds View Public School District and services primarily low income families and individuals living in our school district or Ramsey County.

Principal Points
Dear Families,
We are almost mid-way through the year! I can’t believe how quickly December has come upon us. I wanted to take a moment to share with you a little more about the CARES language that your child might reference or you might see posted around the school. We use this common language as our anchor point for our character expectations at Valentine Hills.
Cooperation: As we prepare students for a workforce that will require them to creatively collaborate and communicate, we want to teach that cooperation means sharing your strengths and learning from others as well. We all do better when we all do better.
Assertion: Assertion means two things. First, it means to stand up for what’s right. This plays out especially as students navigate social settings. Secondly, it means to respecfully ask for what you need. If you need help, ask!
Responsibility: This plays out in taking care of the items, tasks, and behaviors we have been tasked with. We want students to take responsibility of their actions when they’ve made a mistake as well as when they’ve done something awesome.
Empathy: We are a diverse group of learners coming from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Showing empathy means putting on another person’s shoes to seek to understand their perspective.
Self-Control: Stop, think, then act. Is this action helpful? Is this action safe? Is this action kind?
You may see a number of things listed in the newsletter that reference CARES. CARES Buddies are our 5th graders who partner with younger students to show cooperation and empathy. CARES Council is our student council group who works to promote these characteristics. Check with your child’s teacher if you’d like more ways to make home-school connections regarding CARES.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Samec
