SNEAKERS OR TENNIS SHOES ONLY!
Sneakers or Tennis Shoes must be worn on FIeld Day.
NO EXCEPTIONS! This is for the children's safety.
CONFERENCES
Conferences are taking place on October 10, 2016. Please look for a sign up from your child's teacher. Your child DOES NOT have school that day. We will be meeting in your child's classroom.
REMINDERS!
SNACKS
Snacks must be packed separately from lunch. We have a working snack, so healthy snacks like crackers, rice cakes, pretzels, cut fruit or vegetables, string cheese, breakfast bars, etc are best. Please do not send chips, cookies or sandwiches. Nothing sticky or liquid please!
(no yogurt/jello/applesauce)
BOOK IN A BAG
These are read at Teacher table and sent home. Please RETURN the book the next day in the plastic zipper bag, even if your child did not get time to read it. Any book lost, or damaged will need to be replaced, and since they can only be ordered as a set, you will be asked to pay for a full set of 6. Please help us take care of our books.
HOMEWORK
Please encourage your child to become responsible for their homework, and bringing it to school. Homework is expected to be done, and turned in . Remember, they get a play DOLLAR each day that they return their homework on time.
If your child will go home a different way, please call the front office at (469)752-2300 by 2p.m. , or send a note. Please DO NOT email, as teachers often are not at computers, or may be absent.
If your child is a WALKER, you must have your YELLOW sign to pick up your child. This is for your child’s safety.
Becoming Independent
Please help your child learn to tie their shoelaces.
If your child brings lunch, help them practice opening, and closing their containers, and lunchboxes.
Being able to zip up and button their pants/jeans really helps your child when they have to use the bathroom!
LET'S TWEET!
First Grade is now on Twitter. Visit @1stMavs to see what is happening in the first grade classrooms. We will be periodically posting the activities that we are doing in Language, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Specials.
CARPOOL SAFETY
The Plano Police are monitoring our Carpool lines. They are watching to make sure the children are securely buckled in their seatbelts before leaving our parking lot. They are going to be issuing tickets if their seatbelts are not on.
NO LEFT TURN
Please do not turn left into the carpool line during morning carpool and afternoon carpool until 3:15. There are two signs posted and Plano Police are watching.
Cell Phones
Please do not talk on your cell phones while in the carpool line. We want to minimize as many distractions as possible and keep our children safe.
MORNING DROP OFF
Please use the carpool lane whenever possible. Children have been dropped off on Marchman on the opposite side of the street and are running out in front of cars. The carpool line moves quickly in the morning and is the safest way to arrive on time.
SCIENCE and MATH
We are Engineers!
In Science we are doing an engineering unit on MAKING SAILS. Students are working together to build a sail that works and then it's on to building windmill blades that actually work.
Social Studies
In Social Studies we have taught what the words to the Pledge of Allegiance mean. Students learned about making a friendship pledge and also about symbols of the USA.
Addition and Subtraction
The children have been hard at work with adding and subtracting. They have been coming up with different ways to get to a sum and difference. Story problems are another important part of the curriculum. Please help them at home with these tasks. The love playing PRODIGY to help with math skills.
