Second Grade Music Program
Imagine...
Below is a copy of the letter that went home this past Monday.
Dear Parents of Second Graders,
Thursday, May 7th is a few days away. The children continue to prepare for the program and look forward to putting it together for your enjoyment. As mentioned in an earlier letter, the program enlists your child’s imagination and will hopefully spark yours too. Singing, movement, play, instruments and literature are combined for an adventure in music making.
Students should arrive at school on Thursday the 7th dressed in colorful play clothes. Due to a lot of movement, students must wear tennis shoes with socks, and shirts with sleeves. Tennis shoes, every day through May 7th would be helpful. If you are interested in adding a little something extra, to your child’s play outfit, please see suggestions on the back of this letter. The program does have a whimsical feeling.
Beginning Monday, May 3rd, students have grade level rehearsals during Special’s time, 1:45-3:00. These rehearsals continue through Wednesday May 6th and conclude with a morning rehearsal on May 7th at 9:10. If possible, please keep this in mind when scheduling appointments that might take your child away from school during the practices. Grade level rehearsals help students become comfortable with the logistics of the program.
5 parent volunteers are needed to set up chairs for the program. This will occur at 12 noon on the 7th and won’t take any longer than 20-30 minutes. Following the program, 5-6 volunteers are needed to help move instruments and props back to the music room. If you are able to assist with either of these needs, please let me know at lcarter@hse.k12.in.us or contact your child’s teacher. Thank you!
Next week, letters will come home regarding parking, and logistics since this is a school day program.
Thank you so much for your support and for sharing your children with us here at HPE.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Leslie Carter
Music Educator
Imagine takes us…
…to a day of play
…exploring ‘down under’ and all around
…a land of Kings and Queens
…places with castles and clouds,
…a wedding celebration
…very high up in the mountains, TROLLS
…to a night with moonlight shadows
… Home
Please remember there is a lot of movement in the program. An accessory must:
· stay secure
· not block anyone while standing on the risers
· cannot be played with during the program.
· an accessory is not mandatory.
Girls – fun headband, tutu with leggings underneath, hair bows, tight fitting hat
Boys – adult tie over a t-shirt, cape (one that can be tied and no longer than knee length)

PTO NEWS
Please see below for more information on upcoming PTO activities at Harrison Parkway.
HPE Party on the Playground
Please join us Friday, May 15 from 6-9 pm (rain or shine) for “Celebrating Old Friends and Welcoming the New at Party on the Playground.” The event is free this year so we can truly welcome new HPE students from DE and SCE as well as say goodbye to good friends moving to new schools. We will continue to have bounce houses, outdoor games (weather permitting), face painters, food trucks, and a DJ. In addition, the silent auction returns with awesome vacation packages, local business gift certificates, and the infamous grade-level baskets. Some notes about the event: 1) anyone bouncing must have a wristband, and in order to get a wristband, a waiver must be signed, 2) please bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc., as there is very little outside seating at the school, and 3) food is available for purchase. We had great weather for our inaugural Party on the Playground but have not had much ‘success’ in that arena then – let’s hope the good weather finds us again this year. Regardless, we look forward to seeing you and your families when we Celebrate Old Friends and Welcome the New.
