February 1, 2024
From The Principal
Greetings Lamkin families,
February brings fun events and lots of learning opportunities at Lamkin for our amazing students. February has been designated as the "Month of Kindness" by many organizations and groups. During this month, people are encouraged to show acts of kindness and compassion towards others, whether it be through small gestures or grander acts of generosity. The goal is to spread love and positivity, and to remind us all of the importance of being kind to one another. We are LamkinD!
Please take a few minutes to read all about the “happenings” in February!
· Feb. 5th-9th is National School Counselor Week and students will learn about that role in our school. We hope your child will participate in the dress up days on Tuesday and Thursday. Please locate the flyer with details in this newsletter. Thank you Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Gray for all you do at Lamkin each day for our students, families and staff.
· Lamkin 3rd and 5th graders will be taking a STAAR field test next week and we will not have lunch visitors for the week of Feb. 5th.
· Valentine’s Day- our students will have an opportunity to deliver valentines to their classmates and teachers. If you choose to include candy as part of the valentine, please keep in mind that some students have peanut allergies. Many chocolate candy is made in factories that may have peanut products. If possible, please choose a non-chocolate candy for safety. Pencils are another great idea to share.
· Parent Academy:
o ATTENTION 3rd and 4th grade families- On Tuesday, February, 20th, you are invited to come to a “Parent Academy” full of information regarding STAAR testing. The test format has changed a great deal over the last few years and this parent meeting will allow you to see those changes and help your child be successful. Please locate the flyer attached to this newsletter and RSVP so we can plan accordingly. Child care will be provided for school aged students- please use the QR code on the flyer to RSVP for childcare.
o ATTENTION 5th grade families- Fifth grade teachers will send you a presentation with a video to watch with STAAR testing information.
· The principal advisory group is sponsoring a care drive from 2/5-2/26. Reach Unlimited and a nursing home in our general area will be the recipients of the generous donations. There will be a grade level competition to see who can show the most care. There is a donation flyer included in this email. Donation requests include:
o body soap
o toothbrushes/toothpaste
o adult size socks
o deodorant
· SAVE THE DATE- One of our most loved and attended events is around the corner and you will not want to miss! Lamkin’s Safari Night is a night full of fun and learning. The event will include a book fair, student art show, and each child will receive learning materials to use at home. The event will be from 5:30-7:00pm on March 5th.
· During the month of February, students will learn about compassion and kindness. We encourage families to participate in the Random Acts of Kindness Challenge! Please locate the resources in this newsletter.
Thank you for your continues support of Lamkin Elementary. We appreciate working with families as partners in your child’s education.

STAAR Field Test
Lamkin was chosen as a campus who will administer the STAAR Field Test. The STAAR field test is an opportunity for the TEA (Texas Education Agency) to gather data. The campuses who participate are chosen by TEA and this year, Lamkin was chosen to administer the field test in 3rd and 5th grade reading. We will also have a few 4th graders testing from our NAC program.
Students will take the STAAR field test via the online platform on:
- Tuesday, February 6th- 5th grade
- Wednesday, February 7th- 3rd grade
- Thursday, February 8th- 4th and 5th grade select students in our NAC (New Arrival Center)
Campuses will not receive data or notification how students performed. Although no data will be available to us, it is important that each student participate. The opportunity does allow our students to engage with the online platform and testing features of tests they will see later in April.
