Deep Thoughts by Mr. Koder
A Weekly Update
I recently took the same inventory now that I am 6 years older and 6 years further into my career. Three of the same exact strengths (out of a possible 34) showed up in my top 5 again, with 2 new ones. It has made me realize that those strengths really are in the fabric of who I am, and again, I find myself trying to hone into each one of them in my day to day.
The reason I tell this story is not to dwell on what my strengths are, but to encourage you to discover your own. As educators, we continuously are inspecting our students, determining what they are good at and where they need to be intervened on. We can tell each other what our kids like to do and what they tend to struggle on. It is a lot more difficult to focus the magnifying glass on ourselves though and determine where we are knocking it out of the park and how we can utilize those strengths to benefit our kids.
I would like to encourage everyone to spend some time reflecting on themselves to discover your strengths. I found a lot of benefit in using a diagnostic instrument to determine what my strengths are. You could just easily seek feedback from your team. However you choose to do it, I encourage you to know what they are, write them down, and figure out how you can use those strengths to pour into your kids here at school.
