Ms. Newton's Notes
Happy Monday!
Happy Monday!
What an exciting weekend with the sprinkling of snow and the Mead Rd. Mardi Gras Parade! We had a small Krewe, but they forged ahead. Special kudos to Mr. Brooks and the students who gave a riveting performance at Imperial at the end of the parade route. Thank you to the staff, parents and students who braved the weather to participate.
We have such an exciting week with two Nights of Expressions Wednesday and Thursday. NOE is the culminating experience for our school-wide IB Unit, How We Express Ourselves. Students inquired into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values. They explored how ideas can be reflected through creative expression. Students had the opportunity to select varied choices of self-expression: spoken word/shared literary works, art, music, and dance/movement throughout the term.
Wednesday, February 13 will be all 3rd grade classes and the following 5th grade classes: Holliday, R.Stewart, Carty, and Ferguson/Simmons
Thursday, February 14th will be all 4th grade classes and the following 5th grade classes: Johnson, Madhere, DiGiacomo, Bishop/Smith, and Prophet/Robillard
Black History Performance: 6:00-6:45 Multi-purpose Room
Student Presentations: 7:00-7:30We Need You!
Are you interested in supporting diversity and inclusion at FAve? Do you want to help assure that all families are represented and that all voices are heard?
The PTO Board is a great place to work with other parents on important issues and programs that support our teachers and our students. Through community building events, fundraisers, and other projects, our PTO Board works hard to be inclusive and equitable in our efforts to support FAve.
This year the PTO is implementing a Nominating Committee to manage outreach, and to help recruit a diverse group of parents so that all families are represented.
If you are interested in a leadership position or if you know someone that you believe would be a great asset to our FAve PTO Board, please reach out for more information. There are so many opportunities that may offer the right fit. Your contribution of time and energy makes our FAve community flourish.
PARENT SURVEYS
Georgia Parent Survey
As part of the Georgia Department of Education school climate rating for schools, parents, student , and staff are asked to complete parent surveys. The parent survey information is below. Please note that you may come to the school to complete this survey as well as complete it on a personal computer or device. Thank you in advance for taking the time to support our school.
The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. For parents who do not have access to the Internet, the media center will be open from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school on the media center computers. All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous, self-reported, and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.

The IDEA Parent Survey will be open from January 15, 2020 – May 31, 2020.
The IDEA Parent Survey helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement between the local school and themselves. The information is gathered as a component of the State Performance Plan, Indicator 8: Percent of parents with a student receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving results for children with disabilities. The data collected is reported in the Annual Performance Report and on the system profile about each system. Each state is required to conduct a parent survey collection process to measure parent/family needs and perceptions.
Georgia’s parent survey is available to all families of students with disabilities. The survey will be administered through an online link and can be found on the websites listed below.

If the rain keeps you from Walking or Rolling, we encourage you to send your children to school on the bus! We’ll be handing out numbered certificates to all Walkers & Rollers & Bus Riders as part of our monthly book drawing. In addition, we’ll have guests from GA Commute Schools handing out special incentives to all Bus Riders. Let’s keep our cars home tomorrow. Have your child walk, roll, or ride the bus to school! Questions, please contact: kendallhamilton@bellsouth.net
*February is "I LOVE MY BUS" month! Riding the school bus is important not only because it’s safe, cuts down on traffic congestion, and reduces air pollution; but riding the school bus is also a time for students to bond with their peers and increases the likelihood that students will arrive at school on time and ready to learn!
