Beech Parent Newsletter - Week of October 11 , 2021
Reminder - No school for student on Friday, October 15th
Trunk or Treat is this Thursday!
For those who are coming to enjoy the event here is what you need to know!
- Parking for the event will be at David Ellis Academy - no parent parking at Beech
- Each Beech family attending the event must have a wrist band (we are passing them out to students this week). One wristband per family is needed to enter the parking lot!
- Have fun - dress up, make memories, but please make sure that we are being safe!
- Masks are not required as it is an outdoor event, however, if you plan on spending time being close to a group of people it is always an option for safety!
- If you have not donated any candy yet we would greatly appreciate some!
- The car decorating contest will go throughout the entire event.
- The costume contest is at 7:00 pm and will be on the side of the school near the cross walk for walker/rider dismissal.
- We will have a Facebook Live event on Wednesday where we will go over Trunk or Treat and answer any questions you have!
A Message from the Principal
Hello Beech Families,
Thank you for making sure that you have been sending your children to school with masks. We gave out less masks this past week and it really helps make sure that we are able to focus on safety before the enter the building. We would like to encourage everyone to make sure that you ask your children to put a mask on while they are waiting in line to come in the building in the morning. When we have families drop their children off prior to the doors opening they are congregating together and this could cause concern for spread of sickness. If your child is dropped off prior to us opening the doors masks should be on their faces while they wait in line. We appreciate your support with this!
A special THANK YOU goes out to Ms. Katherine Edwards for sending in a donation of masks for us to use in the building! We truly appreciate the partnership.
Thank you!
Ms. Nickel
Leaders from Mrs. Baggett's Leaders Luncheon from September!
They play music and get a special treat!
These students earned 35 points!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
As we are spending more time together as a school family we are noticing that students are being asked to use communication skills that they haven't spent as much time on due to the pandemic. One of the things that we notice is that when students are exhibiting mean or nasty behavior many are quick to call it bullying. While there are instances of bullying, much of what we are hearing from students is children being mean or nasty to each other. Below is a document that talks about the differences.
We are also sharing a little video about Bullying Prevention and on October 20th we will celebrate Unity Day by encouraging our students to wear Orange!
We will share this with the parents as well so that they see these things. We encourage you to talk to your class about the differences listed on the "Is it Bullying Handout" below.

Exposure to COVID - Updates happening frequently - Must up to Date Guidance Below
Each day - Use the COVID-19 Screening Tool for Families (click on the PDF below)
All COVID-19 related decisions are completed with guidance from
Wayne County Health Department
- Keep your child home and call the office to report exposure to a positive COVID-19 case. We will need the following information: date of exposure to positive case, date your child became symptomatic, if exposure is from someone in the house then further questions will be asked when you speak to the Principal.
- You will be given information regarding possible date of return based on initial information. If there are additional people in the household and symptoms begin for them then we need to be informed and return date could be adjusted.
- Your child's teacher will be asked to put a few items of work together for your child.
Exposure at School
- Once the school is made aware of a positive COVID-19 case we will begin the process of contact tracing.
- We will use the School Quarantine Guidance Tool from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for those who DO NOT HAVE SYMPTOMS
- We will use the CDC guidelines for quarantine for those who have symptoms
- If your child is required to quarantine your child's teacher will be asked to put a few items of work together for your child.
In both instances, we will communicate via phone and if available follow up in writing via email. As a district, we will be using the Wayne County Return to School Roadmap. Moving forward, any positive case in the building will be communicated school-wide via letter. Please make sure that your phone and email are up to date in the main office with Ms. Dunn.
Early Pick-Up
Beginning Monday, September 20th, we will not be allowing early pick-up after 3:10. Please help us to be able to do our jobs and get to dismissal on time by following this expectation.

Student Birthday Celebrations
Beech does not allow for cupcakes, balloons, pizza, etc, to be brought in to celebrate student birthdays. We know that this could be disappointing for some children and for that we apologize. We have to monitor for food allergies and ensure that academic time is honored. Thank you for your support and understanding.
