Dear Sydenham Families,
We are happy to announce that Ms. Lamarche returned half-time to Sydenham in the grade 2/3 class as of mid March. Ms. Lamarche is teaching the grade 2/3 class in the mornings. Ms. Funnell-Kononuk (Ms. F to the students) was able to stay on with us for the first couple of weeks of Ms. Lamarche's return, in the afternoons, and it is with mixed feelings that we congratulate her as she takes on a full contract position at Polson Park Public School. While we are cheering on Ms. F. In her new position, we will miss her here at Sydenham. We are hoping to have a new long term occasional teacher in the grade 2/3 class, for the afternoons, by the 2nd week in April.
Thank you to our parent community for your support in respecting the bus loading zone at the pick up and drop off times. We really appreciate everyone's efforts to ensure that the bus can safely stop in front of the school. The traffic flow is going much more smoothly and we are not seeing the traffic back-ups onto Barrie St. We greatly appreciate the collaboration!
Families may have heard that as part of the Ministry of Education's enhanced COVID-19 protocols, school boards are required to offer voluntary, asymptomatic testing to students, staff and bus drivers. Asymptomatic testing is voluntary and is only for students, staff and bus drivers who do not have symptoms of COVID-19. Anyone with symptoms must self-isolate and get tested at a Community Assessment Centre. In Limestone, asymptomatic testing will be offered during specific dates and times assigned to each family of schools. Sydenham PS is part of the KSS family of schools and our students may access asymptomatic testing from Wednesday, April 7 - Tuesday, April 13. Families must book appointments using the existing booking process. Walk-ins are not permitted. Students may continue to attend school while awaiting asymptomatic test results, provided they pass the daily COVID-19 screening. More information and links to assessment centre on-line booking can be found on the LDSB website by clicking here.
Lastly, there are many days of observance happening in April. We wish all our Sydenham
families the very best whether you are celebrating Pesach (Passover), Easter, Ramadan, Ridvan or something else. We hope you enjoy some family time and relaxation in the coming holidays and during the April break.
Stay safe, stay healthy and happy spring!

Ministry releases new Covid-19 screening tool
The province has released an updated version of the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool. The revised tool includes changes to stay-at-home requirements for those with symptoms and isolation requirements for household contacts of those with symptoms. A printable/downloadable version from KFL&A Public health is also available.
1. Students and staff with any new or worsening symptom of COVID-19, even those with only one symptom, must stay home until:
- They receive a negative COVID-19 test result.
- They receive an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional, or
- It has been 10 days since their symptom onset and they are feeling better.
2. Students and staff are now required to stay home from school or child care if anyone in their household has new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19, and has been recommended for isolation and testing. All asymptomatic household contacts of those with symptoms are required to quarantine until the symptomatic household member:
- receives a negative COVID-19 test result, or
- receives an alternative diagnosis by a health-care professional
If the symptomatic individual tests positive for COVID-19, or is not tested, and does not receive an alternative diagnosis from a health-care professional, the symptomatic individual must isolate (including from household members) for 10 days from symptom onset. All household contacts must isolate until 14 days from their last contact with the symptomatic individual (a total of 24 days if the symptomatic individual is not able to effectively self isolate from other members of the household).
