VanderWall & Wedick's ELA Class

Week of 9/26-9/30

Last Week in Greyhound ELA

We started our new unit about Gender Stereotypes in Society by exploring how companies market towards one gender over another. We looked at the Bic "Pens for Her" controversy and toy commercials as well as discussing the stereotypes Be a Man and Act Like a Lady. Students wrote about how they broke those barriers and were their own person.

We also started a new grammar concept of Active and Passive Voice. We took mini notes and have been practicing identifying voices, the person or thing acting in a sentence, and switching sentences between active and passive voice.

Student Led Conferences

This is an opportunity for our students to share some of their incredible achievements with you, and we truly hope we can schedule a time that is convenient for your family. If not, please contact a team member to set up an alternate plan. Thank you for everything you do to help your child be successful.

This week, or the beginning of next, expect a reminder of when you signed up to come to your child's Student Led Conference. If you still have not signed up, please talk to your child about where their sign up sheet it or contact your child's second block teacher for more information.

Celebration

Chromebooks are very important for students to have charged every day. Students will soon lose points on assignments if they do not have a charged chromebook in class with them.

Fourth block proved that was possible last Friday. Every student had their chromebook charged and ready to go. We celebrated with Blow Pops and Star Wars fruit snacks. Here is a picture of some of these awesome students!
