Welcome Back to Lander Elementary!
2018-2019 School Year
Dear Lander Elementary Families,
As Principal of Lander Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year, it is my fifth year as Principal of Lander and seventh year as a Mayfield Wildcat. We are very excited to have your children back in our classrooms. It is our mission to ensure that all students enjoy coming to school and learn in a positive school environment and we look forward to partnering with you to achieve this goal.
It is an exciting time of year and everyone wants to know what homeroom their child will be in. This information will be loaded into Infinite Campus beginning Monday, August 6th and should be available by the end of the day.
Sincerely,
Felecia Evans
Principal
Meet our New Assistant Principal!
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Lander Elementary. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than 10 years. I began my career as a second-grade teacher at St. Rita’s in Solon. My most recent administrative experience was in the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District where I served as Assistant Principal of Edison Elementary for two years. Prior to being an Assistant Principal, I worked in the Curriculum Department as the Curriculum Coordinator. I am eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to Lander Elementary.
This year is going to be amazing as we continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections. It is truly a privilege to be a part of the Lander Family where all parents, students, and teachers work together to create the best possible educational experience for each child. I look forward to working with you, as a team, to help each student at Lander Elementary meet their goals and have a successful school year!
Enjoy the rest of the summer and GO Leopards!

STEM and Innovative Teaching
As many families know we were selected by the Ohio Department of Education as a STEM Designated School, meaning that they recognize our ongoing efforts to provide innovative learning experiences in order to prepare students for future college and careers.
Our work will continue this year as we increase the number of devices that our students have access to at school. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will have tablets, 2nd and 3rd grade students will have Chromebooks and laptops, and 4th and 5th grade students will have Chromebooks. Our Chromebooks will be assigned on a one-to-one basis to 5th grade students who will be responsible for taking them home and returning them charged each day. If you did not attend the device night for 5th grade parents on August 1st, please contact our main office to pick up your child's Chromebook.
Improvements
Our Lander Gym has never looked better, the gym floor resurfacing and new main backboards are the final phase of the three-year project to revitalize our gym. Our roof also received several critical repairs and many areas of the building were painted. New wireless access points were installed and the work has begun to install several additional security cameras. Additional security updates that will be completed include the installation of locking features on several doors and moving our main office entry system to the exterior of the building. We have a fantastic crew of custodians that work hard throughout the summer to clean our building and we are thankful for their hard work.
We are also excited to increase the hours of our School Resource Officer, Sargeant Bandelow. Thanks to a partnership between the Mayfield Board of Education and the Mayfield Heights Police Department, Officer Bandelow will now be at Lander full time. We are grateful to our community, our Board and the MHPD for supporting the safety of our school and students!
New Specials Schedule
Parent-Teacher Group
Our Lander Parent-Teacher group works closely to support the school from activities, to classrooms parties, to Mini-Grants our PTG helps to make a great experience for our students! All PTG members get a copy of the school directory which has contact information for all of the students in the school, which is very helpful in planning for birthdays and play dates!
Last year, in collaboration with our Parent Teacher Group, we held our 2nd Fall Walk-a-thon and our third Spring Read-a-thon, these funds go directly towards supporting activities for our students and resources for our school.
