eLearning program
Public hearing, approval and resolution
The Board held a public hearing to review and consider for renewal the current eLearning program that has been in place for the past three years, which encompasses plans and technology to host school days remotely in the case of an emergency school closing. Under the program, the first emergency school closure would allow staff a remote professional development day with no attendance for students, and any following closures would include remote classes.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Development Dr. Melissa Hirsch reviewed the program, which follows Board of Education guidelines and utilizes Schoology and Seesaw software for students to access classes remotely and to record attendance. This software allows allows for large and small group instruction, breakouts, conferencing and more. Students would participate in a combination of both live and self-directed learning opportunities.
Students who receive additional support services are typically also able to do so with eLearning.
Following the hearing, the Board approved a resolution to renew the current eLearning program for another three years. Parents can watch for communications this fall regarding student expectations for eLearning if this remote option is needed in the 2023-24 school year.
