Weekly Message
We hope you had a very productive Friday. It was fun to get around to talk to many of you in your classrooms. I appreciated seeing how you were getting ready for conferences. Our students are so lucky to have you because it's evident you know them as readers, writers, mathematicians and people. I have asked Sarah Langford to prepare a DreamBox report for each of you. A photo is included underneath the weekly message. Hopefully she will have time to do it for everyone. If you know you don't want it, please let me know and I can ask her not to run it for you. It might be a great way to make a home/school connection for how families can help their students with math at home.
Thank you for your participation with the Math Model Lesson Study. I know that Gus has put in hours preparing for this and she was brave to teach in all grade levels. So, thank you for being so kind and supportive. I hope you had some new takeaways. I deepened my knowledge of how important partner talk is in math to give students time to process what they're learning, be active participants and keep pushing them to clearly communicate their strategies. I'm including links to some documents you may find useful that Gus shared with me about changes in the math report card.
Sociomathematical Norms - this doc has great questions to use to nudge students in their thinking.
I got to run in the brisk air with friends this morning and it was lovely. I hope you find some way to rejuvenate this weekend.
Warm regards,
Jennifer and Lindsay

Co-Regulation
After our great staff activity led by Max and Kelly, I came across this article about co-regulation when used with students. I thought it was great because it talked about co-regulating with students who have made an unfortunate choice, but also gave great tips about regulating ourselves so we can get into a mindset to help them. I know I needed that this week so I thought I'd share.
Information For Conferences
We need to collect some information at conferences for our Title I compliance. Please do the following:
- Have parents sign in and turn in your sign in sheet to Yvett
- Remember to have your parents fill out the Title IA Compact. Give these to Yvett as well.
I'm attaching the appropriate forms here in case you need it in different languages.
Title IA Compact (English)
Title IA Compact (Spanish)
Title IA Compact (Arabic)
Title IA Compact (Korean)
Dinner will actually be lunch and it will arrive at noon on Wednesday. It will be catered by The Meating Place. Thanks PTO!
Social Studies Cadre
There is a great opportunity for teachers to join the social studies cadre. Please consider joining. The application doesn't take too long, but it is due next week.
Rose City Readers for K-3
Let me know if you'd be interested in having Timber Joey visit your classroom to read for kids. I'll get him on the schedule.

SEL Scoop from Juliet
Emotional Regulation is the ability to identify feelings, express them safely, and regulate one’s internal reactions to situations so we are not overwhelmed by our feelings in negatively perceived situations.
Students find it challenging to “read” social situations and adjust behaviors accordingly to meet the demands of the environment. Oftentimes, a challenging behavior occurs when students return from lunch or recess. Throughout the day, it is helpful to reset the class with whole group regulation strategy. Before correcting specific misbehaviors or suggesting self-regulation, consider a Tier 1 co-regulation with the whole group to set the energy and tone of the classroom.
Whole group activities to consider:
1. Silent Ball or Silent Trees: Watch Video
2. Mindful Singing (K-5): Watch Video
Relaxation Activity: Watch Video
4. A Mindful Minute: Watch Video
