Today was a special day at Cowlishaw! Our very own 1st grade teacher, Kathy Hillebrand, was selected as the elementary Indian Prairie Educational Foundation A + Award recipient for the month of December. Mrs. Hillebrand was nominated by two current parents. This is a well-deserved recognition. Congratulations Mrs. Hillebrand!

Emergency Closing Information
Emergency Closing Information
Reported by greg_gibson@ipsd.org on 12/7/21
In light of emergency situations that have caused several local school districts to close for a day, we wanted to communicate with our families the procedures we will use if we were to close for a day due to unforeseen circumstances. Some of the reasons for the closures that have occurred in neighboring districts so far have been related to unsafe water, bus driver shortages, and credible threats. Some situations qualify as an e-learning day. When this is the case, the last day of school remains the same. If we are not able to designate it as an e-learning day, one of our emergency days at the end of the year would be added which would make the last day of school later.
If a situation occurs that requires Indian Prairie School District 204 to cancel in-person learning for a day, we will enact our e-Learning procedures. These procedures were put in place prior to the COVID-19 pandemic when we were trying to prepare for e-learning on severe weather days. Since these procedures were created in 2019, there have been many changes in our ability to provide learning opportunities remotely. The main changes have been the consistent use of Google classroom and technology availability for our youngest learners.
Whenever possible, notification regarding e-Learning Days will occur in the evening prior to the emergency day. Here is an FAQ regarding this type of day. Teachers will have the assigned work posted by the start of the school day for their given levels. For students who do not take their Chromebooks home each night (typically early childhood, kindergarten and first grade) teachers will have sent home a paper copy of a work packet for the students to complete. Teachers will be available to answer questions by email. If the emergency day is expected to be for one day only, the expectation will be for students to complete the work assigned independently. If, for some reason, the emergency situation is expected to be continued for an extended length of time, we will communicate additional plans to provide live instruction opportunities.
Boundary Process
Public Comment
Due to the high level of interest shown by the public in the boundary process, we're offering District 204 residents an opportunity to share their opinions with the board, administration, and at-large community via online public comment forms.
This form will be available from December 9, 2021, until 5pm on December 20, the date of our next School Board meeting. We will then post a final public comment form from December 20 to January 24, 2022.

Young Rembrants
Extracurricular Activity-
Young Rembrandts - DuPage Co., IL - Activities : Cowlishaw WINTER2022
Young Rembrandts has a passion for art and children. The Young Rembrandts method focuses on teaching children to draw, using demonstration and a structured step-by-step process. Through the process of weekly instruction students are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, artistic concepts, art history and mastery of their materials. Young Rembrandts uses a unique curriculum that engages both sides of the brain so all children can participate and learn successfully. Using left and right brain strategies while teaching also helps growing children develop both sides of their brain, at a critical time in their development, resulting in whole brain learning.
Lunch and Breakfast Service
This year, we will continue to provide a grab and go style lunch and breakfast at no charge to ALL Cowlishaw students. Please visit the IPSD website for more information on the free meal program and for menu options. We are happy to share that students can get Milk A La Carte again!
Cowlishaw Birthday Book Club Is Back!!!
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A FUN WAY TO HONOR YOUR CHILD’S BIRTHDAY?
Cowlishaw’s LMC has the answer! Donating a book to Cowlishaw’s LMC helps to build our library collection and make your child feel special at the same time.
At some time during the month of your child’s birthday, we will invite your child to come down to the LMC and choose a book from the birthday cart. If your child’s birthday is in June, July or August, we will invite him or her to come down to the LMC during the month of his or her half birthday. There will be a flat $10.00 price for each book.
When your child chooses a book, we take his/her picture to put in the front of the book with a bookplate commemorating the donation. Your child’s name will go up on the Birthday Book Club bulletin board in the LMC, and your child will be the first to check out the book he/she chose! What an opportunity!
The registration for Cowlishaw’s Birthday Book club can be found in the PushCoin Webstore.
