Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was the first person to discover the "New World" known as present-day North America. Before he did that he had to ask the king and queen of Spain if they could sponsor his trip. The king and queen of Spain took a long time to decide but then they finally decided they would do it. So on August 3, 1492 Columbus and his crew set sail to find a trade route to India. They set sail with three ships known as the Niña, Pinta, and the Santa María. The trip was very long, but on October 12, 1492 they finally saw land. They landed on present-day Bahamas. When Christopher Columbus came back he decided to go another trip to the "New World". He ended up going on two more trips after that. Columbus died in the year 1506.

It was a day I would always remember, the day the king and queen let me go on this trip. It's August 3,1492 and it's a hot summer day with the seas very calm. We left with three boats called the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. It's almost nighttime right now and I am on duty to watch the ship and make sure it stays on course. There are rats scurrying up and down the ship. It is starting to get cold. I hope this new trade route is worth it. Sailors are starting to get sea sick. It was October 12, 1492, and just when we were thinking about turning around, I heard someone yelling "land, land, I see land". I couldn't believe it was actually land! When we got there I was so happy!
