From Your Superintendent
HCS Families,
As you know, today is Veterans Day. Originally known as Armistice Day from the conclusion of WWI, the official theme for this year is "honor." As stated on the VA website: "Veterans are proud of their military service in defending our Nation. Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty. There is distinct honor in serving to protect our way of life and the Constitution of the United States of America." We are proud of our Harrison veterans, we thank them for their service, and we appreciate the honor with which they served.
That type of honor is also what we try to cultivate in all of our schools, with all of our learners, just like you do at home. We work with everyone around what it means to be honest, fair, ethical, and respectful. When someone makes a mistake, honor means owning it and making amends. Just the other day, I apologized to a student because I jumped to a conclusion before fulling understanding the situation. It is also helpful for our learners to see that everyone makes mistakes.
Finally, thank you for honoring us with your approval of the non-homestead millage renewal. This represents about 27% of our operating budget, and we appreciate your continued partnership and trust.
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Hornet Pride,
Judy

DISTRICT INFORMATION
Health Information
We are at the point in the pandemic where public health officials are viewing COVID-19 much in the same way as other communicable diseases. Therefore, we will be starting our school year with the following protocol for positive cases, staff or student:
- With a positive case, the person must isolate for 5 days and not attend or be in school. In counting those days, the first date of symptoms (or the test, if no symptoms) is day 0.
- The COVID-positive person may return to school on Day 6, assuming symptoms are subsiding. We recommend, but do not require, masking for days 6-10 in school.
We are also attaching a handy resource from public health officials that provides guidance on when to keep a child home from school in a variety of illness-related situations.
