RSLAHS BACK TO SCHOOL NEWS
AUGUST 2022
WELCOME BACK
Parents and Students -
This newsletter will include A LOT of information; parts of it may be repetitive for some of you by now. For those of you that are new to our school, I hope this helps you with getting ready for the new school year. Please bookmark this email, print it out and hang it on your fridge or save it somewhere easily accessible, as I am sure it will serve as a valuable tool when questions arise.
School will start on Monday, August 15th at 8:25am (Tardy Bell - 8:30am). You can view the full school calendar and bell schedule on our website at rslacademy.org.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
If you are new to RSLA this school year, please join us for an early orientation on August 8 & 9 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Students will be issued computers and be able to sign up for a locker if they want one. We will have a presentation for our new students, go over what the school day will look like, how Flex Friday works and answer any questions students may have. Students can make some new friends before school starts, learn some tips and tricks with ASPIRE and CANVAS, as well as meet the staff!
To give us a better idea of how many students will be able to attend, please fill out this google form.
Thank you!

PARENT ASPIRE ACCOUNT
Aspire is the student information system. You will use Aspire to check grades, attendance, assignments, view school fees and schedules, as well as to register your student for returning years. If you did not set up an Aspire account when initially registering your student, please do so ASAP. If you did set up a parent account at registration, your username will be your email address. Parents and students should have separate Aspire accounts as both allow different permissions.
Once you are on the Aspire page, click on the blue link below the login information that says "Request a Username" where you will be prompted to enter your student's ID number and birth date. If you do not know your student's ID number you can email the office at cjenkins@rslacademy.org. jrincon@rslacademy.org. You will be prompted to choose a username and password and to verify your student's information.
You can also subscribe to receive automatic weekly updates regarding your student's academic progress. You do this by clicking on the "Subscribe" button in the top right hand corner of your student's home page. This option will be available once schedules have been released.
If you have questions setting up your parent account, please contact the office.

For students involved in after school extra curricular activities, you will be required to provide your own transportation.
The cost of Trax or Frontrunner transportation is not covered by RSLAHS and is the responsibility of the family. You can find more information regarding Trax schedules and pricing at rideuta.com.
*If you are aware of a heavily populated area that could be benefited by additional transportation, please bring this to the attention of our principal, Dr. Stock.
LOCKERS
Gym lockers will be assigned as necessary for those students participating in PE classes and sports. Locks are the responsibility of each student. I cannot stress enough the importance of your student locking their belongings in the locker rooms. Although rare, we have had items go missing from locker rooms and without cameras in the locker rooms, for obvious reasons, it's hard to track down where items may have gone. PLEASE LOCK YOUR BELONGINGS. RSLAHS WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ITEMS LEFT UNLOCKED IN LOCKER ROOMS.
DRIVERS EDUCATION
We refer families to Wright Driving School for Driver's Education. They offer drivers education courses online and in our building. We are looking at having a class on the first week of November. Once we get that information we will send out an email to let you know the official dates.
Please be aware that although they use our building to hold their classes, RSLAHS is not affiliated with Wright Driving School and we do not give academic credit or waive fees for their courses. Registration is required online via their website, no registration will take place through the school. Cost and online course registration information is available on their WEBSITE
SCHOOL LUNCH
Levy Restaurants is our lunch provider. They are the meal provider for all of the RSL training facility. Due to the high quality of food provided, RSLAHS does not participate in the National School Lunch Program, meaning we do not offer a free or reduced lunch option. If lunch prices are not within your budget, we encourage your student to bring a lunch from home. If you have extenuating circumstances please speak to a member of our office staff. Please be advised, fee waivers do not cover lunch costs.
Lunch is served daily and is $4.50 per student. At this time, we will not be serving breakfast. We will not be allowing students to congregate in the cafeteria in the mornings before school.
Below are the instructions for setting up your student's lunch account. You can deposit money into their account via credit card on the website or by sending cash or check with your student to the cafeteria. Students are also able to pay daily for lunch.
Students WILL NOT be allowed to carry a lunch balance. If a student has a balance they will have to pay cash for their lunch each day until the balance is paid. This may affect students that have a balance from last year. Please make every effort to pay your lunch balance in order to help RSL Food Services keep costs down.
Once you have set up your account, you will be able to view and pay your balance and add additional funds to your student's account. You can also set up notifications so you will be aware when your account is at $5.00 or below.
You will use your student's 4 digit ID number to set up your account, or if you have multiple students, you can create a family account using the phone number we have on file.

If you have any questions regarding your lunch account, please direct them to jgallegos@levyrestaurants.com
SCHOOL LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCES ARE NOT REFLECTED IN YOUR ASPIRE ACCOUNT
CHROMEBOOKS AND SCHOOL FEES
Each student will be issued a Chromebook. Chromebooks will be distributed to students during New Student Orientation and Back to School Night.
Depending on courses your student is taking you may have additional fees. Once schedules are finalized you can log into your Aspire account to see what fees you have.
Students will not be given any gear until their fees are paid in full, have a payment plan set up, or have been approved on a fee waiver.
Fees can be paid with a credit card or e-check online via our website
(You will need to manually enter the amount from Aspire, it will not auto populate)
If you are interested in applying for a fee waiver, you can print an application HERE. You will need to send it in to the office with the required supporting documents prior to any fees being waived. Please note, fee waivers do not cover the cost of school lunch.
We offer the option to also request a payment plan to pay student fees. Please fill out the following form if you are interested in the school payment plan.
