MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Rough week for Mr. Tomco. The Browns LOST on Monday Night, and I was home sick for three days this week.
CHARDON FOOTBALL GAMES
Yesterday a message was sent out requesting assistance with supervision of children during varsity football games. I just wanted to reiterate that students should not bring basketballs or footballs to the game tonight. Also, all children under 12 should be directly supervised by an adult during the game. The team will want EVERYONE in the stands tonight to create a sea of red and black and to bring the noise!
BASEBALL DAY
One of my favorite activities of the school year took place this past week. Since the start of the school year, 7th-grade math students have been learning math concepts to analyze and interpret baseball statistics. At the conclusion of this unit, the students participate in, "Baseball Day." Chardon High School's varsity baseball coach, Brian Long, and a few of his current players visit CMS to present on the use of statistics when managing a baseball game. Following the presentation, all students, staff, coaches, and current players head outside for whiffle ball! After the whiffle ball games, the entire grade watches Sandlot and during the intermission, PTO provides the students with a ballpark hotdog and bag of popcorn. I would like to celebrate the creativity and dedication of our teachers for creating this learning experience. Also, THANK YOU to Mr. Brian Long, members of the CHS baseball team, and our PTO for their support.
AHLI
Due to my absence, the selection process for AHLI was delayed. Students will be notified by email if their application is accepted to become a member of AHLI. I was very impressed with EVERY application and it was not an easy process to select 35 members for each grade level. Please know that if your son/daughter is not selected we want to reassure you that this decision does not reflect negatively on your child. Our selection process was based on available slots (35) and unfortunately, we could not accommodate everyone who applied. If your student applied for AHLI, please have them check their email this weekend. If they are accepted, an informational parent meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 26, at 6:00 PM in the LGIR at CMS.
We will continue to offer various programs and opportunities for your student throughout the school year.
Hopefully, the Browns and I can bounce back this weekend!
-Mr. Tomco
