Principal's letter for parents and caregivers
Fifth week of school, Homecoming Week!
The fifth week of school begins this week. This week is homecoming and ASB started it off with having security remove the homecoming court from class last Friday. It is an example of how ASB has adjusted the tradition of taking homecoming students from their homes early in the morning. There will be an outdoor rally around lunch time on Friday. Student course changes have settled down for the most part. There is regular early release Wednesday schedule on 9/15 with student dismissal at 1:55pm. Finally, as a heads up, there is a student free day on 9-20 (next Monday) in order for teachers to meet and plan.
Covid safety last week
Last week I reported that we had a positive case, and follow up contact tracing and testing revealed no more positive cases linked to the original positive case. This week we continued routine testing of athletes and testing of symptomatic students and no positive cases were identified. I want to keep reinforcing the importance of masking on campus. Moreover, the LA County Department of Public Health Protocols do not require students who are vaccinated to go home after a close contact with a positive case. Please consult with your pediatirician if your student has not been vaccinated yet if you are wondering about the safety of the vaccine for your child.
Short Term Independent Study Calls / emails this week
This week we are making contact with students and parents who have been Covid positive or a close contact of someone who tested positive and was required to quarantine and miss school. We will be asking parents to sign a short term Independent Study agreement for the period of absences related to Covid or quarantine. Gladstone HS can recover state funding for students who complete the online agreement and complete assignments from the period of time they were away due to Covid. Given that the State of California does not fund schools for students when they are absent, it is very important that families work with us on this. Thank you.
Voter Education Weeks Coming September 13-24, 2021
