Success Starts at Home Parent Program
The parent presentation Success Starts at Home was well received as we had parents from every elementary and intermediate school represented come out for the event. The program featured TxPTA speaker Heather Ashwell-Hair who has been with Texas PTA for over 18 years. Mrs. Ashwell’s presentation focused on family assets: everyday actions that families can take that highlight family relationships, opportunities, values and self-perceptions. The presentation explained the importance of establishing nurturing relationships with your kids by listening carefully and speaking to each other in respectful ways. Also, showing children affection so that kids know that they are loved. Search Institute research reveals that this is an area that most families in the study do pretty well on. Another key asset presented was on establishing routines for your children. Simple things like having a family sit down together for meals regularly, spending time doing fun family activities,

Instagram or Vine? 5 Things to Know If Your Kids Are Sharing Videos
If your teen loves to share videos and has a smartphone, there's a good chance he or she has Instagram or Vine -- or both. Here's what you need to know about these two popular social apps.
1. What's the difference between Instagram and Vine?
Instagram (Facebook owns it) was already a popular way for kids and teens to enhance and share photos before video capability was added. Just like with Instagram photos, you can edit and add filters to the 15-second videos (either recorded in the app or pulled from your device). Vine (Twitter owns it) lets you record and share six-second looping videos. On each service, you can follow other users, "like" posts and leave comments, share others' posts, and send direct messages. You can search for posts by user or hashtag.

Claudia Moloina: Noonan Parent of the Month
Where do you volunteer? At Noonan Elementary
Why do you stay involved and /or volunteer? I want to help and be a part of my child's education.
What do you want parents to know about your child's school? I want parents to know that every parent can help even if it is only in some small way.
Reasons for being recognized:
During the destination imagination season, I helped in many ways. I gave the students encouragement to keep working on their challenge and volunteered many hours during the DI practices and completion. I was a helper at the completion representing Noonan and Alice ISD. I also was a volunteer during the Accelerated Reader Fun Day.
Erin Gallagher: Noonan Parent of the Month
Where do you volunteer? At Noonan
Why do you stay involved and /or volunteer?
To give my time and presence to Noonan is an opportunity to give my heart to those who give thier hearts to our children daily. One does not need to look hard to see how our precious teachers and faculty at Noona have selfessly, and joyfully, given life to the words "Here I am,send me." Is there any repayment grand enough for such devotion? While pale in compasion, I pray my gratitude is evident when I have an opportunity to give my time and presence to Noonan.
What do you want parents to know about your child's school? Noonan has found a beautiful balance between academics and cultivating our children's character. My daughter's intellect grew alongside the depth of her kindness. Her under standing of grammar and math increased along with her joy for life. Her knowledge of science and social studies multiplied alongside her desire to bring light to the world. Quite honestly, my daughter's heart was nurtured with the same degree of importance as the education given to her these past four years at Noonan Elementary. Education is always a top priority at Noonan, But never at the expense of our children's character. This is a rare and beautiful combination that testifies to the goodness and value of the teachers and staff.
Reasons for being recognized: Let me begin by saying that such nomination feels underserving as I know who those parents are who give a great portin of thier life to bieng of service to our great school. It is one of the many reasons why I feel such pride and joy upon entering the doors of Noonan, I question if my service to the school is to the degree as many of our parents; but I do not question the absolute joy I had helping the Destination Imagination tean this past year. I feel blessd that I had the opportunity to work, laugh, and serve alongside our children and Ms. Saenz, our sponsor. I an the one who feels greatful that a seasoned DI sponsor allowed me to hlep. The entire season of DI is without a doubt a highlight of this past year. Weekday evenings practices, Saturday rehearsal, DI spectacular, planning, snack duties gathering materials for stage props, glueing, taping, tacking, stapling, painting and more, and final presentation was quite honestly the time of my life. I have been nominated for my involvement in the
DI season, but I assure you, the reward has already been won.

Reasons for being recognized: I helped during DI season by bringing snacks for the team. I also helped after school during the Noonan Book fair. I would make sure that items were bagged or help parents find items. I also shelved books in the library when it was needed. Finally during DI competition, my husband and I hauled a trailer full of the team props for all of the Noonan teams. We helped unload the props and loaded them back up for transport back to the school. My husband and I were volunteers during the DI tournament in Corpus Christi ant King High School.
