Principal Walder's Thursday Memo
For the week of January 2nd
Possibilities and a Pep Talk
Below, I share with you one of my favorite Pep Talks from Kid President. It may be a good inspiration for you to show your kids this week.
Please remember to have your NWEA Goal Setting Worksheets complete with students by January 17th at the end of the day. We will review them the following week in PLC.
GOLD Expectations and Evaluations
Make sure to dedicate time to reteach the GOLD Expectations to start the second semester. We cannot rest on the positive first semester, we need to be prepared to reteach after the long break. It is okay to take the time to walk students through the lunchroom, hallways, bathroom, and even bring students out to recess early to review expectations prior to recess starting. Use time over the next two days and even into next week to review GOLD Expectations.
The team will also be conducting a self-evaluation of the implementation of the GOLD Expectations throughout the month of January. You will see team members throughout the building in places that you would not normally see them. For example, a Kindergarten teacher in 3rd-grade lunch or a 4th-grade teacher observing the pink bathroom procedures.
Our intent in completing this self-evaluation of the GOLD Expectations is two-fold. First, this will provide us with powerful information to see if we wrote the GOLD Expectations posters to match what our students and teachers need each day. We will be able to determine if what we are doing well and how we can improve. Secondly, this self-evaluation will help us to determine which social skills need to be reinforced throughout the school. For example, we may need to have a lunchroom challenge or a hallway reinforcement challenge in order to make sure that we continue the progress we have made.
While they are conducting this process, the teachers may be asking you or students questions. Again, this is not evaluative. This is for the team to gain information to see what we can do better to support the GOLD Expectation implementation. At the end of the month, the team is going to gather their observations and determine what is working well and what we can do better to support our Legacy Titan Family.
If you have questions about the GOLD Expectations self- evaluation process, please let me know.
