Mrs. Birkland's Kindergarten Class
Take a look at what we have been doing for the week of Mar. 14-18
Last week and this week we met our final special sounds. We studied the two sounds for oo. We learned the long sound for oo says /oo/ like in Hoot Owl. We made a puppet owl to help remind us. The short sound says /oo/ like in Look at the Book! We did a sort between the two sounds. This week we met au/aw and an Awful Yawn. We read The Sleep Book by Dr. Seuss and yawned every time they said yawn or sleep. It was a lot! Finally we met ou/ow and "Ouch!" We made little bandaids with the letters ou/ow written on them. We brainstormed lots of words that have that sound in them. After break, we will begin our final stretch and our study of word families.
Letters and the Sounds We have studied
Sight Words We have practiced-PLEASE PRACTICE AT HOME!!!
Quarter 2 Words: are, as, like, by, he, she, will, go, all, it, of, to, up, do, at, look, had, was, so, have, for
Quarter 3: not, but, be, what, her, did
Grade Cards Coming Home-They Should Be Sooooo Proud!
As a side note, I wanted you to know, that because of my absences this last month, we did not cover a few areas as thoroughly as I would have liked. So, I crossed out a few things on the parent page that we will continue to work on 4th quarter and report on it then. If you have any questions about anything, do not hesitate to ask. I am always available through email.
Some of the areas I moved to 4th quarter are:
Social Studies-describing maps and globes as geographical tools. We will study this as soon as we come back from break.
Fluently subtracts within 5. I feel like we did a really good job with addition during 2nd quarter and many kids are fluent (can solve addition problems through 5 within 3 seconds.) Subtraction is a little more tricky. So, we will continue to practice this throughout 4th quarter.
Some Pictures from our Fun Flexible Friday-they choose their schedule for the day
Could you all make sure to locate your book envelopes over break and send them in on the Monday when we get back. I have a new collection of books to send home with you all for a change of pace. :)
I hope you enjoy the weather and the time as a family.
We are OUT!!! Please send in a package after break. Thanks so much!
Just a Few Reminders
- As it is starting to get chilly outside, please dress your child in layers (jacket, short sleeves, etc.) Our rooms are warm and I don't want your child to be too hot inside and cold outside! DON'T FORGET A JACKET/COAT!
- Please go through your child's backpack every evening to see their accomplishments and charge their iPad!
