Next Friday, May 13th will be our Family Fun Night and Sports Silent Auction!!! This event will take place from 5:30pm – 8:00pm. That evening Hornung Elementary will have a carnival atmosphere. There really are some amazing items that will be up for auction, which include autographed jerseys, pucks, baseballs and photos! PTO Buzz
A big thanks to everyone who contributed to our Teacher Appreciation Week. The chalk messages, classroom books, bouquets, snacks, handmade cards, and luncheon let our staff really know how grateful we are for their efforts.
The Book Fair is next week and we could use a little help in the media center. Wednesday will be our ‘late’ night for parents to shop after school with their kids. Also, clean grocery bags would be useful as Scholastic is letting us recycle our own now.

Science Fair is Monday, May 9th. Projects can be dropped off in the multiple purpose room at 7am and need to be picked-up by 6pm. Look for an email from our coordinator for more details. If you’d like to come to school to have a picnic lunch with your child outside (bring a blanket) during their recess time, you can accompany them to the Science Fair or Book Fair after dining.
Family Fun Night is Friday May 13. We are so excited to be able to host this fun family event again! Pre-registration is due next Wednesday the 11th. Fliers went home with your child’s take home folder.

Counselor Corner
Well, we made it to the final stretch of the year! The last few weeks, when the sun is shining and energy is high! And after so many months of hurdles and challenges, it is time to celebrate all that we accomplished and overcame during this school year. The Elementary Counselors would like to take time this month to celebrate our students and highlight their amazing strengths. We plan to take time with classrooms to focus on lessons missed at some other point in the year or revisit specific topics that need a refresher. We want to end this year on a positive note and recognize how truly resilient our students are, and we hope that you take some time at home to do this as well.
Thank you for the amazing support from our staff and parents as we worked to connect with and support all of our students this year. We are already working towards our plans for next school year and look forward to expanding our avenues of support.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

The McKinney Vento Act
The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing, motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Uyttendaele.
Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.
