Georgia Milestones Assessments

We are so proud of our Dyer Bears and all that they have accomplished this week. Most of our 3rd and 4th graders have successfully completed the 2017 Milestone Assessment. Due to county internet issues, our online students will be testing Monday morning, and rolling make-ups will begin on Tuesday. Our 5th graders will be taking the Science and Social Studies sections of the GMAS on Tuesday, April 25th and Wednesday, April 26th. If your child will be testing on any of the dates listed, please be sure they get a good night's rest, eat a good breakfast, and arrive on time. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30. Don't forget, we are offering free breakfast to students in grades 3-5 on testing days. Let's make these last few days excellent. Get some rest and have fun this weekend. We are Mountain View, let's show then what we've got :)

Monday, April 24th: 3-5 Math Section 2 (online students only)

Tuesday, April 25th: Science (5th Grade Only) and Rolling Make-ups

Wednesday, April 26th: Social Studies (5th Grade Only)

Thursday, April 27th: Rolling Make-ups

No Lunch Visitors Monday 4/24 - Wednesday 4/26

Due to the change in lunch times for all students during the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessments, lunch visitors will not be permitted from Monday, 4/24 through Wednesday 4/26. We look forward to seeing you all again beginning Thursday, April 27th.

Attention 3rd & 4th Grade Parents

Dear Parents of Rising 4th & 5th Graders,

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend the GOC Blended Classroom Parent Information Meeting last Thursday. If you were unable to join us, please take a moment to review this presentation.

We are very excited about this new partnership, and anticipate great interest. Students will be selected for this class using a lottery system. If you would like for your child to be considered, please follow this link to submit an electronic Letter of Intent. The deadline for entry is today, Friday 4/21/2017.

It is important to note that these classrooms will be a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment, which means that students are strongly encouraged to bring a personal laptop each day to school. In addition, students will need to have a reliable internet connection at home.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Dyer Elementary at 770-963-6214.

PTA News

During Tuesday's general membership meeting, a vote was passed to dissolve Dyer PTA. All of the PTA's originally scheduled events for the 2016-2017 school year will still take place. Our goal is to form a new parent-teacher group for the 2017-2018 school year. We are in the very early stages of the planning process, please be on the lookout for more information soon.

BOGO Book Fair - Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair. We anticipate a lot of students shopping, because it is a BOGO book fair. We cannot have a successful fair without the help of wonderful volunteers like you! If you have time to volunteer any time between May 5 - May 12, please follow this link to the Sign Up Genius in order to pick a time that works for you. Helping the children is a lot of fun. There is not a volunteer discount at the BOGO fair, due to the nature of the sale. However, you will have the satisfaction of helping us raise money to buy more books for our Media Center. We appreciate your help!

Bears Baseball Spring & Summer Camps

Now that the spring season is in full swing- pun intended- the Mountain View Bears High School Baseball program wanted to announce our spring and summer camp dates, as well as a few slight changes. In the past, we have done an 8th grade camp- for rising 9th grade players- at or near the last week of the school year, but we understand this is a difficult time for many, and also cuts into the Memorial Day weekend in many cases. So we will be moving this one-day camp up to Saturday, May 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM- lunch will be provided for all players. We are also going to be expanding this camp to include ALL current Middle School players. Our staff continues to work very diligently to identify and be part of our youth players and programs, and it is our goal to reach out and get to know more of our players at an earlier time. We are also currently communicating with our MVAA baseball staff and coaches, who continue to do a tremendous job building a strong foundation of character and baseball playing ability with our young players, to generate more ways for our high school baseball program to be involved with our youth teams- more to come!

Our Summer Youth Camp is open to grades K-7th and will take place June 5-7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM- lunches will be provided. Please see the attached camp flyer, and feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. I am also attaching our 2017 Spring Schedules for all three teams- Freshmen, JV and Varsity- hope to see you at The Top of the Mountain soon!

To all of our Future Bears- have a great spring, play as hard as you can at all times, and always do the right thing! Go Bears! WE ARE MV!!
