From the Desk of Mr. Wilhelm
As we move into week 3, below are a couple of reminders and clarifying remarks to help students stay organized and be successful.
- Zoom Everyday: We are encouraging students to now meet with their teachers via Zoom on asynchronous days to check in. This "check-in time" will support students with questions and understanding of content and assignments. Also, the daily check-in will provide more consistency and routine for both students and parents. Simply put, all students will check in with all of their teachers, everyday via Zoom. On synchronous days students will check in with their teacher via Zoom and then will stay in the Zoom session for the remainder of the class period. On asynchronous days, students will check in with their teacher via Zoom during the first 5 minutes (or so) and then be allowed to leave the Zoom session to work on their own. During the asynchronous Zoom time, teachers may provide clarifying instructions for an assignment, check for understanding, and/or answer questions. If students don't have any questions, students may exit the Zoom session and begin working on their asynchronous activities. If students do have questions, they may stay in the Zoom session with the teacher however much they need.
- Zoom Expectations: Please encourage your student(s) to model the appropriate behavior during Zoom sessions. Students are expected to act the same way in a Zoom session as if they were sitting in a physical classroom. Students are required to show their face during Zoom sessions. Students should be in the appropriate setting for learning during a Zoom session, they should be seated and not laying down or in bed. Students should be dressed appropriately and act appropriately at all times.
- Attendance: Attendance is required every class period, everyday. Each teacher has set up an "Attendance" module in Canvas. Students are REQUIRED to complete the attendance question in the Attendance module everyday. The attendance question must be completed in Canvas by 11:59 PM for that given day.
- Tardies: Students should be to class (Zoom) on time every class period, every day. When students enter the Zoom session late, it is a distraction to the teacher and other students. Additionally, tardy students miss out on important information and instructions. We do understand that technology does not always cooperate, however, please encourage your student(s) to be on time.
- Absences: Parents will need to go to your student’s profile in Skyward and “Add” an absence and explanation anytime your student is absent for the day. You may also email a note to Mrs. Jones (LaTonya.Jones@allenisd.org) our Attendance Clerk. An absence will be recorded anytime a student is unable to complete the Canvas attendance question during the day. If you have trouble, please reach to your student's teacher or school office.
- Grading: Teachers are taking grades regularly. All standard grading regulations apply. Assignments may be counted late if not turned in by the due date.
