A Message from the Principal...
Dear friends,
Thanks for a great first week of testing. All in all, things have gone really smoothly. We appreciate your attention to all the little details, especially ensuring the security of the testing environment and working to manage the students who have accommodations. I do want to give you a heads up that this week we learned the participation rate will now be included in the reporting of the Academic Indicator on the California Dashboard. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act requires states to test at least 95 percent of all students and student groups in English language arts/literacy and mathematics, and to factor the participation rate into their accountability systems. If schools test less than 95% of the students enrolled during the testing window, their Academic Indicator on the Dashboard will be negatively impacted.
We have proactively communicated the benefits of testing with our parent community, but people continue to opt their children out of testing. This is a concern and if history repeats itself, we will have more and more students request their parents to opt them out as they see others who are not testing. While we are unable to prevent students from opting out, it wouldn't hurt to share with them why you as a teacher personally value the results. Praise those students who are clearly putting forth good effort and taking the test seriously. Also, when you have students opting out, please discreetly excuse them from the testing environment and have them report to the office. The less attention we draw to it the better.
Thank you for your continued efforts to make the CAASPP season a success.
Have a great week!
