WATERFORD WEEKLY
January 6, 2016
WATERFORD MISSION
At Waterford Elementary we believe in all students and staff learning and growing together; where innovation, diversity, and relationships are valued.
WATERFORD VISION
Waterford Elementary School
Goshen's Opportunity for a Productive Tomorrow
Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, Be Present, Play
Choose Your Attitude
I realize that is has been a bit chilly in the building this week. Thanks for continuing to work with great attitudes as we have worked to get the situation addressed. All air handlers are now working, but we are still down one boiler. That will continue to be addressed in the coming days.
Make Their Day
It was great to hear that Zane Parson's graduated from STARS this week, and June provided opportunities for him to celebrate that success. Zane's face was beaming when asked what rewards he earned upon graduating. He said he chose a friend to eat with, and is choosing to read to a couple of kindergarten students. Thanks to the 3rd grade team and June for making Zane's day.
Be Present
The TLT was fully present last evening as we met with Alan and Tammy to go over the results of our DISC personality assessments. This was an eye opening experience for the TLT, and it has made us much more aware of our personalities, how we relate to each other, and the contributions we all bring to the team. We are looking forward to looking at these results in greater detail in the coming weeks.
Play
Hearing laughter exploding throughout the building this week (many interesting Christmas stories must have been shared!) on a daily basis as I walk by is refreshing to hear. Laughing, working, and living life together here at Waterford makes this a great place to be.
COLLABORATIVE TEAM REFLECTIONS
Thanks for a great morning of collaboration and reflection with your grade level PLC's! Below are the Reinforcements/Refinements for each team and their goal for 3RD Quarter:
Kindergarten:
Collaborative Team Score: 2.5 or 3
Area of Reinforcement/Why:
Share in open communication, hold each other accountable, and ensure that all ideas are heard.
Area of Refinement/Why:
Be prepared with materials and student data so we can focus on how we will instruct vs. what we will teach.
Note: We have student data to use. How can we use the student work portion of the student data to drive our planning time? What will this look like as we begin? How can we make this manageable?
Action Plan:
Once we administer NWEA Reading, we will....
Meet together to discuss the data and identify the biggest need (as a grade level).
Align the need with the focus of the calendar.
Bring SW for bubble students aligned to the need and focus of the calendar.
First Grade:
Collaborative Team Score: 3
Area of Reinforcement/Why:
Respectful communication has been our strength.
Area of Refinement/Why:
We will actively participate by collaboratively looking at grade level student work rather than each teacher being focused on their own classroom needs.
Action Plan:
1. Be Prepared - come with completed plans, materials, and student work.
2. Actively participate while looking at the grade level as a whole.
3. Make plan - Do the Plan - Analyze the plan - Revise and Repeat
Second Grade:
Collaborative Team Rating Scale: 3.5
Area of Reinforcement/Why?
Continue to strive to be on time and have materials ready to keep this area a 4.
Area of Refinement/Why?
To take time to celebrate achievements.
Action Plan:
Continue to add time into our grade level.
Katie will facilitate and prompt the team.
J & C = will come with a celebration in mind.
Third Grade:
Collaborative Team Score: 3
Area of Reinforcement/Why:
Positivity!
We are always up to try new things and we keep our collaborative time hopping and fun. Everyone is comfortable to express their opinions and ideas.
Area of Refinement/Why:
Respecting the Process
We have gotten in the habit of looking at the curriculum map and standards to know what we are planning for, but we've decided to take it a step further. We had discussion about the lack of experience that is prevalent on our team. One way to "level the playing field" is by looking at our students' work from that week to help us plan for the following week.
Action Plan:
Look ahead and use the curriculum map and sketch to have an idea of what we will be planning for/teaching
Be sure to understand the standard and what DOK level it is
Look at SW/Data to drive next steps
Be ready to share trends in your SE during planning
Fourth Grade:
Collaborative Team Rating Scale: 3.75
Area of Reinforcement/Why?
having confidence and trust in each other through clear communication. The team is consistently meeting and discussing where they are and where they are going. Giving grace on a daily basis because they are a new team....it is imperative that it happens...it does!
Area of Refinement/Why?
Be prepared for our planning meetings with all necessary agendas and materials.
Action Plan:
1. Create a 6 week sketch (January 4th)
2. E-Mail each other before Thursday our plans and materials list so each member has a time to reflect on each subject area before our meeting.
Fifth Grade:
Collaborative Team Score: 3
Area of Reinforcement/Why:
Be respectful with technology
Area of Refinement/Why:
Stay positive and encouraging
Action Plan:
Set up more short term wins to foster more openness to change.
