Principal's Corner
Dear Steeby Families,
I want to thank all of you for allowing us to be part of your child’s education. Everyday is a great day here at Steeby Elementary. Teachers make their lessons fun and exciting, and students are engaged in their learning. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education please reach out to your child’s teacher.
As we return from Spring Break on Monday, April 10 please help us to remind your child that each and every day at school is an opportunity to learn something new. June 2nd will be here before we know it but there is a lot of learning that will take place before that day.
M-STEP(Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress) is right around the corner. This test is administered by each public school in the state of Michigan to students in grades 3-8. It is aligned to Michigan’s learning standards and assesses students with more problem solving and critical thinking questions. Students in 3rd grade will be tested in ELA and Math. The tests will be given on different days throughout a six week window starting on Monday, April 11, ending on Friday, May 20. To learn more about M-STEP, and for resources pertaining to M-STEP, go to MDE- M-Step Summative
If you are traveling for spring break or enjoying the week at home, I hope you and your family enjoy your time together.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson
Principal
IMPORTANT REMINDER/REQUEST
We want to be sure that parents are getting the messages from the District in case of inclement weather and/or transportation changes for the day.
Thank you for your assistance!
Adventures in Art
Third Grade Families~
Exciting news from the art room! Students have been working really hard on a card design. They will be bringing home a large envelope that explains this cool fundraising opportunity. Here is the scoop: you can order your child's art on a set of 10 blank cards! The cost is $15 but $3 will come back to the art room for art supplies! Please take a minute to read the envelope and check out your child's design.
If you plan to order please include the cash or check in the envelope and make sure that your child's design is placed back into the envelope. Classes will be bringing their artwork home at different times but all orders will be due April 14th.
Feel free to email me with any questions: spicers@waylandunion.org
Thanks~ Mrs. Spicer

What's Next?
Please be aware that as the weather improves P.E. class will be held outside as often as possible. If you do not want your student wearing their gym shoes outside, please send them with a pair they can wear outside on gym days.
Notes From Music
Thank you to everyone who came to support our 3rd graders during their musical performance on March 21st. We were so proud of the good job our 3rd graders did that evening.

Media Moments
March is reading month! It has been a busy month at Steeby and in media class. Students loved Literacy Night at the end of February for our kick off event. We had a great turn out! So thank you for coming and celebrating literacy and books. Most of March we focused on getting ready for our author visit. Robbyn Smith van Frankenhuyzen visited Steeby on March 20th. She shared many interesting stories about the animals her and her family helped on Hazel Ridge Farm. She is best known for her story titled Adopted by an Owl: The True Story of Jackson the Owl. The students loved meeting her in person after reading her books.
This week in media class we are focusing on spring just before spring break. Students are writing their own spring acrostic poems and printing them out to take home. The poem maker can be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home. Have a great spring break!
Happy Spring and Happy Reading!
