West Pine Middle
Ignite! Engage! Grow!
A Note from Mrs. Wiley
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please spread a little joy to educators everywhere by sending an email or note of thanks. One small act of kindness will go a long way.
Our students will take the END OF YEAR assessments in iReady reading and math this week. Please encourage your child to his/her very best so we can see the GROWTH he/she has made this year.
We have lots to celebrate at West Pine. Congratulations to our NCDOT Bridge Building Team on their 2nd place finish in the state! In addition, join me in congratulating our Robotics Team on a strong showing Friday at the Middle School Robotics Competition. Special shout-out goes to Nathanial Evers and Aidan Waters who were the only two Moore County middle school students selected to the NC All State Band. They performed this past weekend. Finally, kudos to our Wildcat Baseball Team for going undefeated in conference play this year and winning the Lee/Moore Conference Championship!
We are just 18 school days away from our first EOG test and 27 days left in this school year. This is the perfect time to remind your child to FINISH STRONG!
As always, it's a great day to be a Wildcat!
Take care. JW
Congratulations, Mrs. Braun!
Congratulations, Captain Gooch!
Lee/Moore Conference Champs!

Attention all rising 7th grade parents
- According to North Carolina state law, all students are required to receive the following two immunizations to enter 7th grade: Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis) and MCV (meningococcal conjugate). Schedule them now and you may avoid the late summer back up at doctor's offices and the health department. You must provide WPM with the required documentation of the shots received.

- Per NCDPI guidelines, End of Grade testing takes place during the last 10 days of the school year. Tentative test dates for WPMS are as follows: May 25 - 6th/7th MA and 8th ELA, May 27 - 8th SCI, and June 1 - 6th/7th ELA and 8th MA/Math 1. Make-up testing will take place on non-test days. Wildcat Athletics
Middle School Athletic Eligibility (Academics & Attendance)
A student must meet the following requirements:
Academics
1. In grades six, seven and eight, the student must pass three out of four core classes each semester.
2. If an athlete is "academically eligible” or "academically ineligible” at the beginning of any semester, that status is retained throughout the full semester. This means that all Second Half of Winter & Spring Semester sports are dependent upon the prior Fall semester grades.
Attendance
Daily attendance is essential for student academic success and emotional well-being. If students are absent, please communicate with teachers for access to work through Canvas. If students come in tardy, they must arrive by 11:30am to be considered present for the day. Students who are absent may not practice after school, travel with the team on the activity bus to away games, or be able to play on game day.

School Information
Not Feeling Well...
- Students who are not feeling well are asked to stay home. Staying home when sick is essential to keeping infections out of school and preventing spread to others.
Cell Phones
- Students are reminded each morning during announcements to turn off their cell phones and place them in their book bags. If there is an emergency and your child needs to contact you, he/she is allowed to come to the office to call. Same goes for you. Please call the office and we will be sure to get the message to your child
Child Nutrition Update
- School meals are provided to all students free of charge this year. However, it is still important that families who qualify for this benefit complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. This application has benefits beyond school meals, such as discounted fees on academic tests and exams, college applications, increased school funding to support all students and more. To have an application mailed to you, call the Child Nutrition Office at (910) 947-2342 or email cndirector@ncmcs.org.
Afternoon dismissal
- School dismisses at 3pm. 6th graders are picked up at the front of the school. 7th graders are picked up by the baseball field (enter at West Pine Elementary School). 8th graders are picked up in the back parking lot (staff parking area). Please note: once the 8th grade afternoon carline is at capacity, those cars will be asked to remain in the regular line until a staff member directs them to the back of the school.
- 8th grade cars are asked to use their right turn signal to alert the staff member on duty directing traffic that you are turning right.
- 6th/8th carline: All cars are asked to stay close to the curb in the bend near the split in the road so that the 8th grade cars have enough clearance to exit safely.
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving after 8am must sign in at the front office. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the front door and ring bell for assistance.
Early Dismissals
- We understand that doctor/dental appointments and other appointments cannot be avoided. However, in order to protect the instructional time and limit class disruptions, no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:30pm. Students will not be called out of class early until the parent/guardian arrives to school. Any changes to your child's afternoon ride home must be shared with our office staff prior to 2:30pm.
Instructional Fees
- School fees are $40 (technology and instructional). There may be additional fees for encore classes. Those fees can be paid online, or your child can bring in to school and one of our staff members will receipt. Families may submit a request for waiver or reduction of fees form if they feel they cannot afford to pay these fees. This form is available through our bookkeeper, Ms. Campos.
Student Medication
- All medication, prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs that parents want given at school must have a physician order accompanying the medication to school. The Request for Medication Administration in School Form (Spanish) must be filled out in its entirety, on one sheet of paper with the front page being the physician order, and the back, the parent authorization. Medication of any type must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original container with the Request form Medication Administration at School completed by the physician and the parent/guardian.
