Tailgate Information
Tailgate Info:
- The school building will be open the entire time for students to check out displays in the hall.
- Wise Guys will be selling pizza for $3 a slice--Rita's Ice will have ice cream for $2 and $3 and PTA will be selling water.
- HMS High steppers will perform at 5:15 in the bus circle
- "Degree Plan Cards" - students can pick up at a table. Students need to collect four stamps/signatures/stickers at each booth, then can turn these in before they leave and be entered in a drawing on Friday.

Humanities
Main Idea, Character Analysis, and Making Connections - Students will select a favorite book character (from a novel) and create a digital representation, including character wallpaper, email dialogue between main and supporting characters, and connections with their character's music playlist.
Poetry - Students will be writing a creative , lyrical poem about themselves called "If I Were in Charge of the World". Students will focus on rhyme scheme, as well as figurative language elements.
- GCISD Reads Book Challenge - students will select their challenge for this year (click the link below for details)
LANGUAGE ARTS:
- Spelling - Sort words nightly; Study words throughout the week; Test on Friday!
- Writing - conventions, spelling, revising and editing; Narrative mid-year writing
SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Unit 7 - Onward and Upward
students will analyze the many issues facing the move West identify significant events and concepts associated with U.S. territorial expansion, including the Louisiana Purchase, the expedition of Lewis and Clark, and Manifest Destiny
Cornerstone Task #7 - Students will now use information from research above and focus on how various population groups were affected, including Native Americans, Mexicans, and Chinese immigrants.
MATH & SCIENCE
- CBA - Monday 3/5
- Unit 7 - Geometry and Measurement:
- This week we will focus on Customary measurement units: appropriate measurement units and tools, length, capacity, and weight, measurement conversions (using a conversion chart)
- Math Notebooks - It is very important for students to take home their Math notebooks DAILY!! Strategies, notes, and example problems for all skills are written or glued into their notebooks. Students need to become familiar with all of the strategies for fraction by practicing these strategies on homework or additional practice at home.
- FACT Practice!!! Students are expected to know multiplication facts up through the 12's. Students need to practice nightly using flashcards or XtraMath.org. This helps strengthen fact fluency of all operations.
- NIGHTLY HOMEWORK - Students need to complete the homework sheet for each corresponding day, so they are prepared for class! Students are expected to use RUBIES strategies while reading and solving problems. They MUST show their thinking for each problem.
SCIENCE:
- Physical Science - In science, we are studying forms of energy. We are continuing our study of electrical energy and circuits. We will complete circuit quiz boards this week. Students will recognize the difference between an open circuit and a closed circuit. We will spend some time in Stemscopes and then the students will create a quiz board about circuits.

FINAL Payment of $50 was DUE last Tuesday, FEBRUARY 12th!! We must have payments in full by the end of this week!
The total cost for both students and chaperones is $230. Below are the 2 payment plan options:
OPTION 1: Payment Plan
- $80 Initial payment (includes a $30 non-refundable deposit) DUE OCTOBER 16th
- $50 payment DUE no later than NOVEMBER 13
- $50 payment DUE no later than JANUARY 16
- $50 Final payment DUE no later than FEBRUARY 12
OPTION 2: $230 payment in full was DUE on OCTOBER 16
Student Chromebook Reminders
- Students need to be responsible and bring Chromebooks fully charged each day!
- Check to make sure your charger cord is both plugged into the wall outlet and device properly, otherwise, it isn't going to charge.
- Handle them with care - but if it gets damaged, let a teacher know immediately. We can help put in a work order to fix it!
- Only use your GCISD device for school purposes - these are not to be used for personal use.

Daily RESPECT is an expectation for all 5th graders at BCE! Students carry a daily Conduct Folder and bring it home weekly to communicate RESPECT to you.

- We are an official No Excuses University campus. Our belief is that all students have the right to be college ready!
- EVERY Monday is a BCE t-shirt day. Please show your CUB spirit! Wear your 5th grade class t-shirt or a BCE t-shirt!
- EVERY Friday is college gear day! Students are encouraged to wear ANY favorite college gear.
