Shield Testing 10-12-21

James Hart School tested 675 students and staff through Shield on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. We have received 671 results as of 7 am on 10/14/21 and one person tested positive. The positive case and the close contacts have been personally notified about quarantine procedures. Classroom notifications have been emailed. The final results will be posted to the COVID dashboard on the HSD 153 web page.

Test to Stay Program

We have begun to utilize a Test-to-Stay (TTS) protocol at James Hart in order to keep more students who are "close contacts" in school as opposed to being excluded from attendance. Test-to-Stay allows schools to test students identified as "close contacts" on the first, third, fifth, and seventh day after contact (or as close to this sequence as possible) and--if the student continually tests negative--remain in school. While not all students qualify for TTS, we hope to be able to use this when a student does qualify in order to keep them in school. Your school nurse will notify you if your student qualifies for Test-to-Stay. Please note this only applies for school contacts and not household contacts.

Veterans Day 2021

Panther TV is looking to honor our veterans, once again, by way of a photo montage. If you or a loved one has served in a branch of the armed forces, we ask that you please submit a photograph of this individual along with the following information:
  • Veteran's full name
  • Branch of the military
  • Relation to student
  • Student's full name
Example: Benigno Pesina, Army, Grandfather of Cherylyn Cieplucha
All pictures and information must be emailed to Mrs. Cieplucha at cherylyn.cieplucha@hsd153.org. Submissions are due by Wednesday, November 3rd.

Code Drills

Each year it is required for schools to practice various drills to keep everyone safe. It is important for our students to know what to do in case of an emergency.

Code Red means that there is danger inside the school. We stay quiet, hidden in our locked areas.

Code Yellow means that there is danger outside the school. We lock all our exterior doors and do not let anyone into the building.

On Thursday, October 21st we will be doing a Code Red Drill. Anytime we are doing a drill we will say Code Red DRILL or Code Yellow DRILL.

Here is the information that we will share with students to prepare for the drill:

  • If you do not hear us say DRILL then this is real. How you act does not change.
  • We want to prepare everyone to always be safe.
  • Stay calm and listen to adults.
  • The adult you are with may call 911 from their cell phone if possible, so please be very quiet so that the adult can communicate with the police dispatcher.
  • Please listen to the adult in your room as to what the procedures will be if you hear someone yell or announce Code Red/Code Yellow or Code Red/Yellow DRILL.
  • Students will need to be out of the sight of the doors/windows and stay very quiet.
  • Classroom lights should be turned off.
  • Classroom doors must be locked.
  • Once you are in the classroom do not open the door for anyone.
  • If you are in the hallway get to the closest open classroom and follow the directions of the adult in the room.
  • If you are in the gymnasium you will go into the locker rooms.
  • If you are in the cafeteria you will go into the bathrooms and or kitchen.
  • If you are in the bathroom, lock the bathroom door and hide in a stall with your feet on the seat.
  • If you see someone in the building that does not have a badge (James Hart or Visitor) please let an adult know because it may be an intruder.
  • Please do not ever open exterior doors for someone. All visitors need to check-in at the James Hart Office on Morgan Street.

If you do not want your child to participate in the drill, please give Ms. Johnson, our principal a call at the school.

Culver's and Walgreens

Culver's and Walgreens will be limiting the number of students allowed in their establishments after school hours without a parent/guardian or adult.

Culver's

There will be a limit of 15 students allowed in the restaurant at a time and there will be a twenty-minute time limit in the dining area.

Walgreens

There will be a limit of 8 students allowed in the store at one time. Bookbags must be left at the front of the store.

Masks and Bathrooms

Please make sure your child brings an extra mask to school each day. We have been giving out 30-40 masks per day to students and the cost is adding up. Students need an extra mask in case a mask breaks or needs to be replaced. Masks are required for the bus and to enter the school.

We continue to have destructive behavior in our bathrooms. We are asking for your help in reminding your child about proper behavior in the bathrooms. It is not fair to other students or our hard-working custodians and maintenance staff to constantly have to deal with closed bathrooms due to poor behavior.
