Message from Mrs. Phelan
Dear Families,
What a great week we had! We held our monthly buddies activity on Tuesday. It was impressive to see our older students taking ownership of teaching the younger grades how to compost. Next week, we will start composting in the cafeteria! We hope students and staff welcome this initiative to help our community.
Report cards went home today along with many other important assessment updates. Please check your child's folder or backpack.
With gratitude,
Stacy
Whole School Buddies
On Tuesday, our students had the opportunity to participate in another whole school buddy activity where they engaged with peers to learn about composting. This activity served as a preparation to learn everything to start composting at school!
Seeing our older students take ownership of teaching the younger grades how to compost was fantastic!
Composting in the Cafeteria
We will begin composting in the cafeteria during lunchtime next week.
4th and 5th graders will start on Tuesday, and then we will add the other grade levels.
In the first months, students will be asked to stay seated, and a lunch monitor will move around with the composting barrel. We will work step by step on the first days to follow the new composting protocols in the cafeteria.
Check the slides that will be presented to students during the week to help them classify what is compostable and what is not.
We are also planning on having composting expectations posters, like the ones we have around the school.
Let's all work together to make our Planet Earth a better place to live!
Whole School Assembly Presented by our Climate & Culture Team
On Wednesday, February 14th, we will have a mid-year whole school assembly at 08:30 in the cafeteria. The assembly will be about respecting ourselves and others in school and our community.
When: Wednesday, March 6th 6:30-7:30
Where: Lowell School in the Learning Commons
We invite families of children entering Kindergarten in September 2024 to join us at Lowell School. Come learn about our school, Community Education, and the registration process. All are welcome! Please note that students must be five years old by September 1st to be eligible for enrollment.

Announcement: Parents’ Recreational Softball League, Season 3 (Spring 2024)!
We are currently in the process of organizing season 3 (Spring 2024) of the Watertown Parents Softball
League. Seasons 1 and 2 were super fun, and we are expecting season 3 to be even better! For those
who haven’t played before, the Watertown Parents Softball League is a recreational softball league for
parents of kids in the Watertown schools. It is very relaxed and social and open to players of all skill
levels. If we get enough players signed up, teams will be school-based to give parents a fun opportunity
to socialize and build community with other parents at their kid’s school.
If you might be interested in participating, please fill out the Google Doc below.
