Principal's Message
Mother's Day
We loved celebrating with our mums, aunts, grandmas and special females in our students lives last Friday. Thank you for visiting the school and participating in our Mother's Day breakfast.
Please follow the link to our Facebook page for our Mother's Day Slideshow.
Dogs On School Grounds
Many of our students own dogs and feel comfortable around dogs whilst several other students are quite anxious around dogs.
Regardless of either position, under the Companion Animals Act, in Section 14 it states that dogs are prohibited (not allowed) in school grounds, whether or not they are leashed or otherwise controlled. Without blocking entry and exit, any visitor to the school is not able to bring their dog into the school grounds but may remain with their leashed dog on the footpath at the front of the school, which is a public area. Thank you for your support.
Strategic Improvement Plan
Our 2021 - 2024 Strategic Improvement Plan drives all areas of learning, teaching and leading across Jesmond Public School. Our three strategic directions includes Student Growth and Attainment, Professional Practice and Attendance and Engagement. The staff, students and community last year reflected , reshaped and reset the plan to focus more deeply on specific areas and change the targets to align to NAPLAN 2023.

Have a wonderful week!

Debating
Our debate team had their first ever debate against Wallsend Public School. The topic was ‘that Years 5 and 6 students should learn from home one day a week’. Our team argued for the negative and came up with some really great arguments. Unfortunately, the other team won. We received valuable feedback from the adjudicator. We are excited to keep working on our skills before our next debate against Maryland Public School.
Whole School Photos
School Photos for all classes K-6 will be taken on Wednesday 31st May by MSP Photography. Envelopes were sent home last week. This year MSP Photography are encouraging families to pay online through the MSP website. Families still have the option to pay cash on the day in the payment envelope provided. Instructions on how to pay online are included on the envelope. All student photo envelopes must be returned on photo day regardless of how payment is made. Please do not return the photo envelopes until the day of school photos, Wednesday 31st May.
MSP Photography staff will be available on the day for any enquiries. Package prices below.
Tell Them From Me Survey
The Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey measures Years 4, 5 & 6 student engagement, wellbeing and classroom environment, and other factors that affect student outcomes. Permission notes to opt out were sent home last week.
P&C Update
The P&C would like to thank all the families who bought food, drinks and plants from our recent fundraisers. We are raising money to contribute towards the cost of the new sound system installed in the school hall.
Last term, we sold Bakers Delight hot cross buns and made an $80 profit. We also organised the picnic for the Easter Hat Parade and with the support of Woolworths, we raised $258. The Mother’s Day stall was a great success with children carefully choosing their plants and gift bags, we raised $175.
Our next event will be a pizza and pyjama day on 14th June, more information will be sent home closer to the day.
Our next general meeting will be Wednesday 21st June at 6pm. We would like to encourage all parents and carers to come to have your voice in what we do in the school. Please follow our Facebook page ‘Jesmond Public School P & C’ to find out more.
