A message from the principal
Dayton Families,
Thank you for a wonderful school year. It has been a true pleasure watching your children learn and grow this year. Our students are kind, creative and incredible. We are honored to be a part of your child’s education and are grateful to partner with you.
Wednesday, June 7, is the last day of school for elementary students.
We are having a final Eagle Huddle with students on Friday, June 2 with a special guest, Dazzling Dave, yo-yo master. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this fun event. We are encouraging all students to wear their Dayton t-shirts on Friday, June 2.
A special thanks and well wishes to all our students and families moving on from Dayton Elementary this year. With 5th graders transitioning to middle school, and about 200 students shifting to Oxbow Creek Elementary School, we know next year will feel different for many of our students, families, and our school. As your students embark on new adventures, know that the Dayton school community continues to be here to support you. We have no doubt our Eagles will continue to do great things wherever they go.
Please join us in celebrating two phenomenal educators, Darla Heil, kindergarten teacher and Deb Moe, special education paraeducator. Both Mrs. Heil and Mrs. Moe are retiring at the end of the school year. Thank you, Mrs. Heil and Mrs. Moe for all you’ve done to positively impact our school. We appreciate you and wish you all the best!
Thank you for sharing your children with us. We are honored to collaborate with you, and wish you a safe and fun summer. For those of you looking for additional resources to support your child’s learning over the summer, please see below.
Sincerely,
Jessica Wippler

GO EAGLES
Parent Survey
All schools in the Anoka-Hennepin School District will conduct a brief five to ten minute online parent survey this month. Parents/Guardians should receive a letter in the mail with instructions for completing the online survey. If you do not have access to a computer, you may request a paper copy of the survey by calling the school at 763-506-2200. Paper surveys are available in English, Arabic, Hmong, Oromo, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
In addition to providing an opportunity to participate in the online survey, we will also be conducting a phone survey of randomly selected families. The families this year will be from select elementary schools. Similar to the online survey, the phone survey is also brief, typically taking five to ten minutes. All phone responses are also confidential. We encourage you to participate in the phone survey if contacted, in addition to completing the online survey.
The district has conducted the parent surveys since 2004 which is a project directed by the Anoka-Hennepin School Board to gain parent input regarding our schools. The results are used in district and school improvement planning to make changes in areas identified as needing improvement.
Your input is extremely valuable in helping us make decisions with respect to our schools. Thank you in advance for your participation.
June Specialists Highlights
Art
Dayton artists are finishing the school year by creating colorful paper tiles for a collaborative art project that will be revealed in the fall. Over the summer, you can find many opportunities for art making at the Rum River Art Center, libraries, museums, and community centers. Ms. Merrill and Mrs. Christenson would love to see what you create! Reach out on SeeSaw. Have a safe, fun, and creative summer!
Core
We are wrapping up the year by reviewing all the technology we learned and put it all together to create a final project. Students learned and used most of the google applications including draw, docs, sheets, and slides and their learning will continue next year as core changes its name to Tech Tools. Students are encouraged to use these tools over the summer along with their knowledge of Scratch programming. Remember, Scratch and Scratch Jr. are free to all users. Enjoy your summer and have some fun! Mrs. Malone
Explorations
We have had a great year learning about science and social studies! The whole Explorations team is gearing up for the new science curriculum next year, Twig. It is a great curriculum with a lot of hands-on activities. We hope you all have a wonderful summer. Adventure is out there! Ms. Peterson & Mrs. Christenson
Media
First, I want to thank all families for supporting your child’s love of reading! I have loved connecting with all of my students this year and having wonderful conversations about the great books we’ve read. Fun fact - this year, our students have checked out 26,938 books! Second, thank you all for getting your books returned to our library - we have almost all of them turned in! Lastly, keep that love of reading going this summer by accessing your public library or an online reading site or app. Look for a summer reading packet that will be coming home with your child this week or next. I’ve included grade level summer reading links and fun summer reading programs for all grade levels. Please read this letter to access the summer reading resources. Please see page 2 of the letter for grade level specific information. Thank you for an amazing year! Find your joy in a book this summer! Mrs. Ridlehoover
Music
Sumer is a great time to sing around the campfire in your backyard or on a camping trip. Your children have learned lots of songs this year to share with their families this summer!
