New Information
Summer Construction
Safe Stop App (Bus Riders)
Bus stops, times, and routes have previously been provided to you by postcard but are now housed in www.SafeStopApp.com. Routes are regularly being updated in the SafeStop system. Please continue to check for updates for information on how to access SafeStop. This year there are changes to how students access their bus route information.
www.SafeStopApp.com app and website allows families to see if there are changes in their student’s pick-up time in real-time updates. The App also allows families to be alerted as the school bus enters their area.
Postcards with instructions to the www.SafeStopApp.com have been sent out to families.
There is a copy of the instructions below. Student identification numbers to set-up their SafeStop account can be found by clicking the “Today” tab in the left column of the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus.
- Download SafeStop from the app store or access information online at www.SafeStopApp.com.
- Enter your student's Student ID # in the app. This information is accessible through Infinite Campus
- Access bus routes for each child. To access the bus route for each child, you must know your student's Student ID #. Families should review their child's route via the app or website daily -- especially in the first month of school as routes change frequently.
***If you cannot access SafeStop via the app or website, please contact your student's school.
Raptor Visitor Entry System
The Cedar Rapids Community School District is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor and Volunteer Management System in our schools to strengthen our district’s program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. The Raptor system will better allow us to track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.
Upon entering a district building, visitors at the buildings listed above will be asked to present an ID, which may be scanned or manually entered into the system. We understand that a parent or guardian, for a number of reasons, may not have a US government-issued ID. In this case, the school staff member can ask to see another form of identification and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system. The system is designed to check this information against the sex offender registry.
The Raptor system will check to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings.
The Raptor system ONLY checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders.
No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded.
The system is NOT connected to any other database such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, and information is not shared with any outside agency.
Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)
The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act provides schools, which predominately served areas of high economic need, an option for meal certification under the Community Eligibility Provision. Under this provision:
Qualifying schools are allowed to serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students in that building without having to collect and process individual meal applications
Under CEP, individual students do not have eligibility status, the school has the CEP designation based on the number of students directly certified
For students with positive lunch account balances, funds can be used for extra milk, (ala carte at secondary level) or can remain on the account for future use. Money can be transferred to siblings in non-CEP schools.

Important Need to Knows
Building Schedule
What are school hours?
What is the Cell Phone Policy?
As technology continues to make life easier, and has done wonders for communication, it has also created more challenges. In a school setting it has created obstacles such as cheating and cyber bullying. Students struggle with appropriate cellphone use and tend to disrupt the learning environment with these items. Due to the many distractions a cellphone can create, students are required to turn cellphones off when entering the school building and keep them off during the school day. At the end of the school day when the student is leaving school they may resume use. Cell phones are not allowed to be used in the restroom and locker room for any reason.
For further details, please see the Parent Handbook that will be available for pick-up at Back to School Night.
Where do students wait before school?
In the morning students will wait in the following areas:
- 6th Grade: Front of the building. Students will enter through front doors.
- 7th Grade: Northern portion of building. Students will enter through main parking lot doors.
- 8th Grade: Upper B Avenue Entrance. Students will enter through B Ave. door.
At 7:43 students will be allowed indoors. The 7 minutes is adequate time for the students to get to their locker, grab their appropriate materials, and arrive into their classroom for morning announcements.
Where to Drop Off & Pick Up?
*** VERY IMPORTANT ***
For the safety of our students and staff we encourage you to carefully read through the map below. The cooperation and patience of all our families is essential as we orchestrate the hustle and bustle of the morning and afternoon.
Guidelines for Success
In every area of our building we have well-defined and effective expectations. Whether students in are in a classroom, student lounge, cafeteria, or simply waiting for the school day to begin, students are taught the behavioral expectation for all common areas. The expectations were designed to be clear, age appropriate, detailed, reasonable, and used by both students and staff. Positive social behaviors are introduced, modeled, and reinforced and are an important part of a student's educational experience. To help students with meeting these behavior expectations we follow our Guidelines for Success.
Guidelines for Success represent a set of skills, traits, and attitudes that everyone in school always strive to demonstrate. Simply stated, these are our goals, lifelong learning strategies, or codes of conduct. This school-wide system was designed to help to create a safe, civil, and productive school.
Fall Sports
In order for students to participate they need an up-to-date physical and a signed concussion form. If you have any questions regarding these forms please contact our Health Office.
6th Graders will have plenty of opportunities to be active throughout the year for music, fine arts, and intramural/clubs. We will keep students and families informed of these activities. Stay tuned!
