Bristow Run ES Panther Press
February 2022
Dear Panther Families,
We are officially halfway through the school year! It’s hard to believe that we have already completed two quarters. Second-quarter report cards are available for parents to preview in ParentVUE. Please take time to review your child’s report card with him/her and discuss their grades for the quarter. It’s a great time to work with your child to make some goals for the third quarter. As administrators, we read all students report cards and I must say we are very proud of our panthers. I know how hard students and teachers are working to make sure our students are successful! Parents also play a huge role in their child’s success and we value your continued partnership.
Recently, we have had many requests for students to have an extended absence from school for traveling. PWC attendance regulation, 724-1, includes the following regarding family vacations/trips planned during the school year. Preapproved absences are discouraged and will only be granted in extraordinary circumstances. Family trips should be scheduled during school holidays and over summer break. Principals will limit the total number of approved absences related to trips/vacations. If your family has a trip planned, please complete the form below and submit it to the school office. Once submitted, I will reach out and follow up with additional information regarding your child’s absence from school.
This week, we celebrated National School Counselor Week. I’m confident that our school has the best counselors in PWCS. A huge shout out to Mrs. Leischner and Mrs. MacWhorter for their constant dedication to our students and families. We are so lucky to have two amazing counselors at BRES.
Your Partner in Education,
Mrs. Jeck
Attendance Reminder!
A reminder about attendance. Absences can be submitted on ParentVUE, by calling the office at 703-753-7741 or by emailing your child's teacher and/or Stacey Ivancic at ivancisa@pwcs.edu
Kindergarten Registration: Opens March 21, 2022
Kindergarten online registration for the 2022-23 school year will open on Monday, March 21, 2022, and is followed up with an in-person registration appointment.
Parents whose students are currently enrolled in any PWCS preschool program (preschool or special education) do not need to complete the online kindergarten registration process. Instead, they should contact the registrar for the school where their student will attend for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year.
If you have any questions about kindergarten registration, don't hesitate to get in touch with Bristow Run's registrar, Susie Pierce. PierceSC@pwcs.edu
Updates from Nurse A
The new guidelines for Covid isolation and quarantine periods as noted above were revised and implemented on January 24, 2022. Testing is no longer required prior to returning from quarantine.
Please continue to call the main office if your child has had an exposure to Covid outside of school regardless of their vaccination status.
PWCS Family Support Line
This family support line is available for use during after-school hours and on weekends to answer any Covid-related questions parents may have.
Wish Tree Paint Night
Wish Tree
We finished our One Book, One School event by putting our wishes on our School Wishtree! Students were all given the opportunity to make a wish to be placed on our tree. We all really enjoyed reading Wishtree by Katherine Applegate and cannot wait for next years One Book, One School!
Lexia Challenge: Read Across Virginia
Garden News
Our cover crop has slowly been growing on the garden beds since we first planted it in October. Soon, we will have our next workday to create walking paths with mulch. Stay tuned for the specific time and date! Once the weather gets warmer, we will begin planting a variety of beautiful plants for our Bristow Run community to enjoy. Take a look at our garden blueprint to see our plans!
PTO: Boosterthon
On March 16th, we’ll kick off our Bristow Run Panther Fun Run program! We are super excited to bring back the fun run and cannot wait to get our parent volunteers out on the field while the students complete their laps. Our goal is to raise funds for important school improvements and to strengthen our school community. This year more than ever, we need additional funds to provide an excellent educational experience for all of our students. We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at mybooster.com. Sharing IS supporting! All students will participate in the Bristow Run Panther Fun Run, regardless of financial participation. We will also be following our school safety guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone. We appreciate your support more than you know. More details to come as we get closer to Kickoff!
Key dates to remember:
- Registration and donating opens March 2nd
- Register on MYBOOSTER.COM
- Fundraiser Kickoff March 16th
- Event Day March 24
We are grateful for our Panther family! Thank you for your support this year!
