Core Classroom Updates:
English Language Arts
Our study of the Triangle Factory fire ended with a station activity to dig deeper into the selections from Uprising and then a quiz. Next, we moved to another cause of great importance – civil rights. We read an excerpt from Lynne Olson’s The Most Daring of Our Leaders. Next week we will pair this piece with a speech by the late Rep. John Lewis. After that, we will explore the Civil Rights Movement through a historical fiction piece.

Elective Class Updates
Art with Mrs. Sipp
Art students will be introduced to the Art of Shading with the Element of Art- "Value," by viewing a slideshow presentation of the objectives, directions, video clips, and examples of the Artwork they will be creating. Students will learn how to draw and shade a circle into a sphere, a square into a cube, a cylinder, and a cone using a pencil with smooth transitions of dark to light shading. After students have successfully learned how to shade the 4 shapes into forms, they will be creative in designing an artwork that includes each of the forms into an atmosphere, whether it be realistic or surrealistic.

Drama
This week the students began reading scripts for our Reader’s Theater performances. Once their scripts have been selected, we will begin rehearsals focusing on voices and facial expressions. Students will also practice standing still during a presentation. (This is more difficult than some may realize.) For this performance, the students will also have the opportunity to learn about the tech side of a show by learning the light and sound boards.
