FMS Flipped Staff Meeting
August 2016
Full steam ahead: 2016-2017 FMS
Let's start with recognizing a few people for their wonderful work throughout the summer months. Thank you to our custodial staff for the outstanding work they did this summer preparing our building for the upcoming year. Please be sure to give the custodians a shout-out the next time you see them.
Minda and Judy have also been working all summer to prepare the office and building for student arrival on September 6th. Many staff members are seen around the building during the summer and continue to go to these two for assistance and problem solving. Thank you Minda and Judy for all your hard work.
If you placed any orders this past spring, please be sure to look your orders over to make sure all this arrived. New desks, chairs, tables, whiteboards should be in place as well. See Minda or myself if you have questions or concerns.
All of you have been introduced to Mrs. Kelly McDermott our new Assistant Principal. If you have not had the chance to speak with her in person, I would encourage you to do so during the workshop week. We are excited to have her with us at FMS and look forward to the year ahead.

Take a moment to look this over.
6th graders will receive their iPads at the Open House on August 31st. For those 6th graders that did not make it to Open House , they will receive their iPads during the make up time slots on September 9th. (This could change to a sooner date if the Tech Department can make arrangements)
Thank you for your flexibility during the first week without iPads.
Apple Classroom Teachers needed!
Building Needs
Please share with me any thoughts, ideas, or additions that you would like to see to our building. How exciting! No idea is too big or too small.
Once I have the list completed, I will need teacher and student testimonials. Let me know if you are willing to write up something or be involved in a wish list video.
Mark you calendars:
October 12, 2016 School Assembly
February 9, 2017 8th grade NAEP testing
February 13, 2017 Orchestra Festival
Grades
Please make efforts to have your grades updated as much as possible. It is important to keep your gradebook accurate and up-to-date. Establishing a routine of updating weekly is helpful for parents. Many staff members check grades with students as well - weekly updates will assist them also.
Thank you for all your extra efforts!

Faribault School Board Study Session
Team brochures and personal goals.
At that same meeting, we discussed personal goals that you would set for yourself for the 2016-2017 school year. Many of you submitted the goals through the google doc that I provided. I will print off the goals that were received and place a copy in your mailbox. If you do not receive a copy of your goals - I did not receive them.

New staff members and staff members that have not turned in your goals yet are asked to submit your goals using the link provided. The instructions are simple: list three goals that you set for yourself for the 2016-2017 school year. I am not looking for SMART goals or data driven goals; simply list three things that are important to you that you would like to improve upon during the upcoming school year.
SOAR
Fundraiser
Suggestions and ideas are always welcomed. I will be discussing a sales calendar with the Department Chairs and we will have a kickoff sometime in mid-to late September.
T-shirts are available to purchase at open house as well. Stop in the office or at the t-shirt table if you are interested in purchasing a shirt right away. Long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts will be available through the online sale.
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences
By making this change we will free up five hours of staff time. We will hold a Celebration Night in the spring of the year. This Celebration night will be centered around student achievement and student recognition as well as student connectedness. Getting students and parents into the building for positive promotion is never a bad idea.
Exact details are being worked on, the date of the spring Celebration has not been set yet either. Getting a date cemented on the calendar is a top priority. Staff hours for this evening will be 3:30 - 8:30.
Color Dash
Don't be fooled - it is a great amount of work but the rewards of such a positive activity extends far beyond the amount of work that goes into putting this all together. I will be involved and provide help to the group that takes on this project.
See me if you want to discuss and find out more details.
