ACTION PLAN
DEFINITION OF FIRST AID
To help a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available.
DANGER
Ensure that the area is safe for yourself, others and the patient. YOU are the first priority
RESPONSE
Check for a response - ask them their name and squeeze their shoulders. Put your hand in their hand and tell them to "squeeze my my hand if you can hear me".
If they respond, make them comfortable and make sure that they keep responding to you.
If they don't respond continue with the action plan.
SEND FOR HELP
Call triple zero (000) for an ambulance
If there are other people around, get them to make the call
AIRWAY
Open their mouth, if foreign material is present, or there is something blocking the airway place them in the recovery position and clear out their airway with your fingers
If there isn't anything in their mouth keep them on their back

BREATHING
Check if they are breathing, look, listen and feel.
If they aren't breathing or not normally, start CPR
If they are breathing normally, place them in the recovery position and monitor their breathing

CPR
Start CPR - 30 chest compressions to 2 breaths
You should be able to do two compressions every 1 second
Continue CPR until help arrives or until patient recovers

Apply the defibrillator if available
