Principal's Update
Dear HMS Families,
Welcome to our final week of the 2021-2022 school year. Wow. What a ride it has been!!!
I have been doing some big reflecting this weekend on the successes, shortcomings, and overall feelings I have about this first year as principal at HMS and as a newbie to Liberty Public Schools. And while there are, without a doubt, plenty of areas of growth for me, I can't help but smile at this family that I am now a part of. I shared at the very beginning of the school year in my first S'more with you all, that my vision for Heritage is to offer a place where students and staff thrive because their needs are met, they are challenged to think bigger and bolder, and they feel included, therefore ensuring others feel included. I also shared that because of that vision...you could expect from me and my amazing team the following things:
- If you are a student here at HMS, you should feel safe here, that the adults here care about you and help you, that there is someone here you can talk to if I have a problem and that you are proud to be an HMS Eagle.
If you are a parent here at HMS, you should expect that your child gets just as good, if not better, of an education as any other middle school, that your child is seen and spoken to everyday, that your child feels valued when they enter HMS, that you, as the parent, know what’s happening at your child’s school, you feel safe sending your child to school here, and you feel heard when you have a concern.
I sincerely hope, from the bottom of my heart, that you know and believe I have worked daily to meet those expectations. As I stated above, this year had big moments of learning for me, but in those moments of clarity and learning, I was given an even stronger desire to come back next year and be an even better leader for HMS and for you. Thank you for your grace and your partnership, and thank you for investing in HMS. We are better because you all are in #OurStory. I thank you all.
Your partner in education,
Reagan Allegri

Okay...now on to the details as we knockout the next 4.5 days together.
Here's a few highlights for this week ...
- End of Year Activities & Visitors - While we wish we could welcome all families to the fun activities for students this week, we just cannot accommodate all our amazing families along with the student body and staff in our gathering spaces. Thank you for understanding and your support that these will just be for students and staff.
- 8th Grade Dance - What a wonderful night seeing all our awesome 8th graders enjoying each other and dancing and socializing. I know my heart was happy just seeing them so happy!
- 8th Grade Device Turn in- Please see the picture below of what all needs to be included in device turn in for 8th grade students on Thursday.
- Yearbook Waitlist - Yearbooks have arrived and if we have extra, any student who placed their name on the waitlist will be entered into a lottery for remaining books to be sold. If your child's name is called, please ensure they have cash or check so they can pay for it. If they don't, we will move on to the next person in line. $15 cash or check to Heritage Middle School works. Sending money tomorrow would be ideal.
- Library Books Due - Yearbooks Held - We have many students who have library books still checked out at this time and they are due. Please ensure your child returns his/her books upon arrival on Monday. Yearbooks will be held until all books are turned in or fines paid for lost books. We thank you for your partnership.
- Water Guns @ School - We are starting to see and up-tic in students bringing water guns to school and making poor decisions. Please have a conversation with your child that these are absolutely not permitted on school property and it will result in discipline if they appear at school.
- Loss of Privileges - This week any major discipline referrals that come to the office will result in students losing activities such as yearbook signing, field trips, talent show, olympic games etc. We are seeing an increase in behaviors and with the days becoming more unstructured, these opportunities will not be allowed if students cannot show our expectations of being kind, safe, and respectful. We have also shared this with all students so everyone is on the same page. As always, your support means the world to us on this.
MAP/EOC Makeups - Any students who have not finished their testing sessions will be pulled to do makeups this week. This will take precedence over all other activities as all testing must be completed by Wednesday.
Last Week of School Activities - Please see the calendar below for this week's activities. If you have an 8th grader and have yet to fill out the permission slip for your child to attend the trip to North, Please click here to fill out the form. Also, we are moving 6th grade yearbook signing to tomorrow in the AM due to rainy weather headed our way on Tuesday, and 7th grade signing taking place on Wednesday afternoon! 8th grade will remain the same as of now.

Important School Meals Reminder - As we shared earlier this spring, the U.S. Department of Agriculture did not extend the program to provide free school meals to all students for the 2022-2023 school year. This does not mean that the free/reduced lunch program has been eliminated for those students who qualify. Therefore, now is the time to fill out a meal application. The quick and easy application can be found by clicking here. As a reminder, this change will take place at the start of our summer school program, which begins Monday, June 6, 2022. If you have any questions, you are encouraged to contact your child's home school nutrition services team.
- Intersection Improvements Near LNHS - Construction Update - We have been made aware by MoDOT that they will be making intersection improvements along Route A at 112th St. (near Liberty North High School) beginning Monday, May 16, 2022. This work will be a flagging operation May 16 - June 1, 2022. On June 1, the intersection will be closed until approximately mid-August 2022. For complete details regarding this project, click here.
- As we near the end of the school year, and as student behaviors tend to increase, please know that things like yearbook signing, field days, talent shows, field trips, and other activities, this will be what students will miss out on if they choose to not follow our school expectations. We want all students to attend these activities and hope they can participate and follow these expectations. We appreciate your support with his at home.
