Board accepting applications for upcoming vacancy - Deadline Feb 15
Karl Yost has announced that he will be stepping down from the School Board in March to devote more time to his work and family.
The board will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Yost’s term, which ends in November, 2019. The board is accepting applications now. Applications can be found online or at the District Office, and are due by February 15. The newly appointed board member will be sworn in at the March 21 school board meeting.
The appointee may or may not choose to run for election in November. Filing week for the November, 2019 election is May 13-17, 2019. More information on local elections can be found on the Skagit County Auditor’s website.

Equity Film Series: More Than a Month
Free monthly documentaries and thoughtful discussion about equity, inclusion, and how we grow a vibrant and welcoming community in complex times. Join us on February 28 at 7:00 pm, in the AHS Library, for More Than a Month, a fascinating inquiry into the meaning of Black History Month and what the treatment of history tells us about race and equality in America. FOOD TO GO ANACORTES IS A WEEKEND BACKPACK FOOD PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SUPPLEMENTAL MEAL BAGS FOR 150 ANACORTES CHILDREN WHO DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT OVER THE WEEKENDS. PLEASE JOIN US IN HELPING TO FEED THESE CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO NEED IT THE MOST! OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $25,000 WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION AND GENEROUS DONATIONS!

Positive Parenting Classes - March
These Brigid Collins “Triple P” Parenting Classes are for parents of children ages 0-8 years old.
Classes provide parents with ideas and strategies to raise happy and confident kids, manage misbehavior, set rules and routines, encourage desirable behavior and for parent self-care.
When: Thursdays, March 7 – 28, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Where: Whitney School in library, 1200 M Ave, Anacortes. Cost*: $40/person or $50/per couple (parents or guardians of shared child/ren)
*Scholarships available based on need. Must be requested in advance.

Anacortes Lacrosse Club: Calling all new and returning lacrosse players! Registration for the Anacortes Lacrosse Club’s Spring 2019 season is now open! We have teams for boys and girls in grades 1-8. Announcing the inaugural season of the Challenger Division for 2019! The Little League Challenger Division is an adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. This is the first year that Anacortes will offer this program and we can’t wait to share our love of baseball with this fantastic group of kids! Southern Resident Orcas: The natural history and current conditions facing the species.
Today Southern Resident Orcas using the Salish Sea and nearby coastal waters are at a critically low point with only 74 individuals in the J, K, and L Pods. An Orca Task Force commissioned by Washington Governor Jay Inslee has been charged to identify reasons for the Southern Resident Orcas’ decline and recommend actions that will help the population recover. Howard Garrett of the non-profit Orca Network will present the unparalleled natural history of Orcas, the conditions that now threaten their survival, how and where field research is being conducted, and the emerging picture of diverse Orca populations worldwide. February 11th-19th: Mt. Erie PTA is holding another Clothing and Textile Drive Fundraiser. Channel Marie Kondo and clean out your closets! Drop off at the trailer we will have parked at school. Your old stuff earns us $0.25/pound that funds PTA supported school programs, employs locals at our Value Village, and is recycled as affordable thrift store goods for local families. The trailer will be open weekdays from 7:30-5:30 pm. BAGGED items only (no boxes please). We accept gently-used clothing, linens, jewelry, shoes, accessories (such as belts and purses). Thank you to our Mt. Erie alumni parent, Charlene Janz, for loaning us the trailer!
