Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 22nd March 2019
A Global Perspective
Year 4's Educational Visit
On Wednesday 20th March, Year 4 went to Bradford on a school trip. We went to a mosque and the Science and Media Museum. Lucy preferred the museum, whereas Zoe preferred the mosque. In the mosque, they have a special way of praying and girls pray separately to boys. They also pray five times per day, and have something called incense burning which not many of us liked! In addition, there are classrooms where children learn how to read the Qu'ran.
In the museum, we learnt that mosquitoes can see what's hot and what's cold. We also went to a bit in the museum called the Wonder Lab, where there was a mirror maze and an exhibit where you put a straw on a metal bar, bite it, and then it makes music! Finally there was a hearing test and they thought Zoe was 10 and Lucy was 19!
The visit to the museum helped our science topic work on sound. We were even lucky enough to watch a 3D film in the IMAX cinema.
Shakespeare Week
As part of Shakespeare week, the Year 2 children learnt and performed the witches' spell from 'Macbeth' to the whole school and their parents at celebration assembly. Then they went on to write their own spells and found out lots of facts about Shakespeare.
Year 6 enjoyed performing scenes from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in the garden and several other classes were also involved in experiencing the joy of Shakespeare.
Year 5 Do Justice to their welcome worship
A super upbeat worship - well done Year 5!
Year 3 Celebration Assembly
Molly and Alexa lead this week's celebration. They used sign language to show how deaf people communicate, they taught how to clap in sign language and presented certificates followed by a clap in sign.
new access between Nursery and Reception
super sinks
Nifty new toilets
Loving our new facilities!
In addition, we have beautiful kitchen units in the Oscar's room which include a dishwasher, and adult and child height sinks. The children (and staff!) in Oscar's are already enjoying their new kitchen, and it will also make cooking lessons easier for all classes in the future.
Our thanks to our facilities company GFM for their project management, the Diocese of Leeds for sourcing the funding, Rob Holmes for his designs and ongoing input, and Tom Willoughby's, the builders who were considerate throughout - all did a great job!
Oscar's Holiday Club is Back!
Parent Governor Elections
Thank you to the three candidates, and to all those who voted. It was a close count with three very strong nominations.

Our second Easter tradition, an egg hunt on the school field, will also take place as soon as school finishes for the term, at 2pm on Friday 12th April. Huge thanks to City Barbers who have provided funds to sponsor our Easter events so there will be prizes for all!
