Good Afternoon Holly Elementary Families,
Happy Friday! We are so excited to be meeting with our families next week for conferences. The partnership of our families is very important to us and we can’t wait to share all the great things about your students. If you haven’t confirmed your day and time with your child’s classroom teacher please make sure you reach out to them.
We are excited that our PTO is hosting a trunk or treat this Saturday in our school parking lot. If you have not turned in your sheet that is okay we still would love for you to join us. We will start at 4:00p.m. Halloween celebrations will be here very soon as well, we have a few changes to how this will look. Costumes are welcome at school on October 29, please keep building guidelines in mind, students need to wear them to school. Costumes can NOT depict violence or violent acts; this includes fake blood, gore or imagery that would not be “G” rated. There will be no make-up, costume masks or inflatables allowed this year due to the need of wearing a face covering & spacing issues. We would love for families to join us for our costume parade that will take place outside weather permitting. We will parade the front sidewalk of our building, providing families time to get pictures and see all the creative costumes. If the weather does not cooperate we will take many pictures and post them to our facebook page.
Classrooms will enjoy Halloween treats and activities throughout the day with their classes. If you would like to send in a treat with your child for them to share with their classroom please provide an ingredient list.
We have been informed of some issues with the Lifetouch pictures. We have emailed the company about these issues that we have been made aware of. Retakes are scheduled for November 8th. If you have any questions please contact our office.
Parents, if you are having to park and check in or out your student please make sure you are not walking between the busses. This can create a very dangerous situation and we want to make sure everyone stays safe. So if you have to walk your student in or out of the building please make sure you are crossing in front of the busses. We also have families dropping off their students in the front parking lot and letting them walk through the parking lot without an adult. This could result in someone getting really hurt. If you are not using the carline in the back and have to drop off in the front parking lot, you must walk your child to the front door and NOT just let them walk in the parking lot alone. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe.
We are excited to announce Holly Area Schools will be hosting the MORC Road Show. MORC, Inc. along with up to 10 agencies specializing in resources for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families will be providing information, assistance and help with transition planning! Please see the attached flyer for registration information, as families must pre-register for this event.
Also, as a reminder our doors open at 8:20 and instruction begins at 8:35. It is very important that students are on time. We don’t want students to miss out on the start of their school day.

Leader in Me Section
Holly Elementary is a Leader in Me school. We follow the 7 Habits of highly effective people/kids. The 7 Habits are:
Habit 1: Be Proactive - I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind – I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school's mission and vision.
Habit 3: Put First Things First – I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule and achieve my goals. I am disciplined and organized.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win - I balance courage, forgetting what I want, with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others' Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives. I look for ways to be a good citizen.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood - I listen to other people's ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
Habit 6: Synergize - I value other people's strengths and learn from them. I work well in groups, even with people who are different from me. I seek out other people's ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than can anyone of us alone. I am humble.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just in school. I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.
Parent Reminders
Just a couple of reminders about our drop off and pick up procedures:
Drop off:
- Students eating breakfast will enter the building @ 8:20 AM and go directly to the cafeteria.
- If you are driving and dropping off your students please use the carline.
Pick Up:
- Carline pick up is running smoother each day.
- Please do not walk up to carline and pick students up.
- If you have not yet completed your Skyward verification, please do so as soon as possible. One of the updates includes your 5-day plan for dismissal. We will use that when questions arise.
Medication
- If your child takes medication at school, forms must be renewed each year. You can find the forms on our website in the Community/Parents tab under Medical Information.
