Virtue of the Month: Peacefulness
Peacefulness is being calm inside. Take time for daily reflection and gratitude. Solve conflicts so everyone wins. Be a peacemaker. Peace is giving up the love of power for the power of love. Peace in the world begins with peace in your heart.
You are practicing peacefulness when you...
- Create inner peace with daily reflection
- Use peaceful language even when you are angry
- Speak gently and respectfully
- Avoid harming anyone
- Appreciate differences
- Find peaceful solutions to every problem

Woodholme Welcomes Julie McDivitt
As the 2018-2019 school year draws to a close, my excitement in joining the team at Woodholme grows! I am so eager to begin my tenure as principal starting officially on July 1, 2019. Along with all of you, I congratulate Principal Young on her much-deserved retirement and wish her well for this new chapter in her life.
I have been an educator since 1995, and have been lucky enough to have many different experiences. I was a classroom teacher for 17 years and taught in Carroll County, York County, PA, overseas in Okinawa, Japan for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, and in Baltimore County. I have taught grades 2, 3, and 4 and was also a special educator for one year in grade 5. While in Baltimore County Public Schools, I taught 3rd and 4th grade at Seven Oaks Elementary School in Perry Hall and was an Instructional Coach at Powhatan Elementary in Woodlawn. I transitioned to assistant principal at Edmondson Heights Elementary School in 2011 and took over as principal in December of 2014. I have been principal at Edmondson Heights for the last 5 school years.
It is very important to me that Woodholme families have a voice and partner with our staff in continuing to make our school a great place. I will publish opportunities to come and meet with me informally during the month of July so that you can share what is working well at Woodholme and what ideas you have for changes. Please keep an eye out for details on the dates and times for those meetings coming soon!
Have a wonderful start to your summer! Stay safe and enjoy the more relaxed pace but be sure all students read for a minimum of 20 minutes a day!
Sincerely,
Julie McDivitt
Principal at Woodholme Elementary (as of 7/1/19)
A Note From the Principal
Dear Woodholme Families,
My very last newsletter!
As we come to the final two weeks of school, we reflect on the busy, successful and exciting school year we have had. The beautiful student performances we had the pleasure of witnessing at our Spring Concert and our Student Showcase had me bursting with pride and filling with tears of amazement! Thanks to all of the teachers and staff who worked so hard to make our school come alive with student imagination and creativity! Thanks to our band, orchestra, chorus and Rockin' Rockets teachers for the work they did to prepare our students for their performances.
We have enjoyed working with our families and students this year! We know teachers are looking forward to the summer break for some much needed time to rest and rejuvenate so they are fresh and ready for the upcoming 2019-20 school year! The main office remains open during the summer so administrators can start working on next year. Summer hours will be posted once they are determined.
Just a reminder parents that summer can either be a time for academic decline as skills are abandoned and forgotten, or a time for academic progress as reading and math skills are practiced and even improved with summer academic and enrichment activities. Consider scheduling summer reading and writing activities into your children's daily or weekly schedules, and fun math activities and practice can also help keep those math facts skills sharp and quick! You can contact your children's teachers before the year ends to get ideas on how to help your children keep their academic skills fresh this summer. Summer family trips or even day trips can also be a great way to explore museums, geographical areas and historic places. Don't forget to have your children write in summer journals to not only record their memories of trips and sun and family fun, but to have much-needed practice time with writing!
We are so excited to begin planning for a great 2019-20 school year ahead for Woodholme students, and as soon as the students leave on the 17th, administrators and teachers will begin a week of strategic planning to review and finish up Woodholme's School Progress Plan that was started during the Title 1 schoolwide transition meetings and start planning the calendar and learning for next year already. Administrators will also work on hiring new staff as some teachers retire, transfer to locations closer to home, or take on new positions. We'd like to congratulate art teacher Lisa White and school counselor Lisa Greenberg for their retirement at the end of this year! We are so very grateful for their dedication and service and wish them the best in the next phase of their lives!
Speaking of retirement, I cannot mention one more time how appreciative I am of all of the amazing well-wishes I have received from our Woodholme families! The cards, very positive and kind sentiments, and the hugs and kisses are so heart warming and of course tear-producing! Thank you for letting me serve this amazing school with our beautiful children! I have set up a Facebook page called "Principal Young" so that I can connect with my former students and families because I want to know when they graduate from high school, trade school and college, or start careers or families, and how they are doing! I'll try to take time out of my Nana job to post as well!
Please don't forget to enjoy relaxing and fun family time together this summer!
Enjoy the rest of the school year and your summer.
Much love,
Principal Young
